I would be excited to see Kane in a Flames jersey... I just hope we don't overpay to get him, prices seem to be high this deadline.

Are the prices high this year? I see a lot of quantity over quality in these big trades. save maybe Brassard.

Or you could put Kane with Backlund and Frolik and move Tkachuk to the right side of Monahan/Gaudreau.

Exactly, anywhere he slots into the top nine, he's good.

But in your own words that Okposos' deal isn't very good...then what does that make Backlunds even longer deal?
I'm not sure where the disconnect is here.

You asked:

"How is 6 million a bad salary when we just finished giving Backlund 700K less a year for far less production?"

And the answer is the context of the Flames present salary situation over the next few five years. With Backlund locked up, we now need to be very careful with contracts we take on relative to paying Tkachuk, Ferland, Bennett etc as our cap situation is becoming complex.

If you're removing the context and simply asking how is Okposo's cap situation different from Backlund without looking specific to the Flames' cap situation moving forward... Backlund is an elite defensive centre. Okposo is a 45-50 point winger who's been a career minus player. Okposo also had a huge health
/ concussion scare in 2017.

If you're saying in a vacuum you think they're comparable players that's your prerogative. I don't think so at all... and again my point goes far beyond that to the concern of adding that contract to our complicated cap situation moving forward.

Are Buffalo expecting Mittelstadt to play #2 Center? Guy looks like a star.

If so, trading RoR with a Jankowski or Bennett being part of the return makes a lot of sense for them.

I'd love to see Chucky on that top line full time.... They all look absolutely deadly on the PP now that Gulutzen has put two defensemen back there.

Kane has a career high of 57 points and that was 6 years ago...

He's a 40ish point player at best now.

I'd like Treliving to do something that at least tells the team they are trying to improve and make a PO push.

Brodie >> Gorges
Ferland > Kane (when considering salary and age)
Rittich => Lehner
Fox vs Nylander -> personal preference

This trade does not make the organization better IMO

quite honestly the flames are missing 2 middle six forwards.

If there's an option there to grab two forwards from one team in one deal I think that's the natural direction to look if you're Tre.

The Flames have been remarkably fortunate this year in terms of injuries. Imagine how crippling an injury to backlund or Monahan would've been.

If you can get, on paper, a centre lineup of Monahan/O'Reilly/Backlund you can have a dearth of underqualified wingers on the wing. The reason being, in case of a line going cold or there being an injury, you have options for your talented wingers (gaudreau/tkachuk). Not to take anything away from Ferland or Bennett, but we've seen what those guys can do with and without playing those top guys.

If you can nab E. Kane and Oreilly in one deal, you've created a distinct 4 year window in which you can expect your roster to challenge for the non-wildcard spots in their conference.

I don't know what Buffalo is after, but with Phil Housley there maybe they see an emphasis for Fox. If they see Sam Girard potential in him as an example, maybe there isn't a ton of other value needed to secure the deal.

His agent maybe?

How about wait and see if a trade happens before ripping on speculation type of stuff?

This type of info makes the site interesting,,,,,

mods can handle validating the source
