Regarding speed, I think Poirier is back up with the team by late February around the deadline.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Jagr-Bennett-Versteeg
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Poirier-Jankowski-Brouwer
Lazar
Stajan

That's a fast team. The fact that Versteeg looks quick this year is huge, his offseason training did him wonders.

How about an all size line:

Tkachuk - Jankowski - Jagr

They will take the puck from you. Just try taking the puck back from them.

I don't think the team has to be extremely fast overall if they play smart. Jagr plays smart. Jagr makes the people around him play smarter and better.

I can see why the Flames waited this long to sign him (if they do), they wanted to give everyone else a chance to prove they deserved the spot more but no one has.

The only bad thing about this signing IMO is the timing, I've wanted this to happen for years. I think now the moons aligned and everything will work out really well though.

I did after the Foo signing, he seemed to have a line on something there. But his Jagr baiting after that had me drop him.

Adding Jagr to the mix really opens up the possibilities. This is how I'd roll them out, the first three lines in no particular order...

Gaudreau - Bennett - Ferland
Tkachuk - Monahan - Jagr
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Stajan - Brouwer

I get the enthusiasm for signing a future hall of famer and Jagr would bring massive personality to the team, but put me in the camp of not thinking he's a good fit. He can't keep up with the speed of Bennett / Gaudreau on the rush and is he any better than Iginla would be on the backcheck? I don't think so. I think what will happen is that the teams 'system' will be compromised to accommodate Jagr every time he steps foot on the ice, and if the team plays 'down' to Jagr's existing strengths (puck protection, cycling in offensive zone, passes through seams) they can have success, but is it worth rocking the whole system boat for one guy? I think Florida and other GM's realize it's not worth it.
Not to mention Jagr's special needs to survive the whole season of a western conference travel schedule, his private warm up routines, private practicing, etc.
Sorry to be a wet blanket on the thread, but I'm hoping the signing doesn't materialize.

I'm so torn. He's super old, he's slow, he's not a good backchecker, he's probably quite expensive ... but it's Jagr. All those rational thoughts go out of the window when I imagine Jaromir frickin Jagr doing the salute while wearing the flaming C.

This post reads like it’s about a different player. Certainly it isn’t about a player who put up 46 points last year and 66 points the year before.

He’s also a possession beast and one of the best minds in hockey.

No need to backcheck when you always have the puck.

Also, it’s just unfair to stick Bennett with Brouwer for 2 straight seasons.

Jagr would be playing 3rd line minutes on RW, and PP time. Is he an upgrade on Troy Brouwer who is currently in that slot? Does the PP need more creativity and help?

The answer to both questions is unequivocally yes. None of the kids stepped up. Sign him for the year.

Jagr has played more systems than you can shake a stick at and is still scoring at second line level.
He can do more with 2 steps than most with 20.

I'm not too worried everything is going to change to accommodate him hall of fame or not

This has to be the first rumored UFA signing in Flames history where nobody on CP is complaining about salary

I'm worried about Bonus carryover to next year. But pay him all we have this year

Why is everyone spelling "Iginla" wrong?

Well, wait for the terms to be released, because I promise someone will.

I never want to see Brouwer on the Powerplay again.

Still kind of worried about St. Louis though. Wouldn't be the first time they snatched a HOT from Calgary.

If this happens and I hope it does, shirt sales alone should just about pay his wage! It will also raise interest within the city I would imagine and add a load of fun factor.

Ps you can take that A off Brouwer as it will have another shirt to go on.

I am on board with this!

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Versteeg-Bennett-Jagr
Stajan-Jankowski-Brouwer

I am okay with Stajan but man does it suck to have Brouwer on the fourth line making 4+ mil... can't believe he still has 3 more years left. Vegas can use him, no?!?

If they sign Jagr, Brouwer just doesn't fit

If Jagr signs is it not likely that Stajan is waived?
