Jagr is clearly chasing personal records at this point. So how well he fits into the system and buys in remains to be seen.

However I believe he's 56 games away from breaking Howe's all time games played record. After the Gretzky's goal/assist/point totals, this has got to be the most prestigious record in hockey, and one of the biggest in all of sports. If he signs, he has a chance to do it in Flames silks on home ice.

That brings to game 56 to tie (vs Edmonton) and game 57 to set a new record (@ home vs Vegas). God damn...I know which game I'm getting tickets to.

Of course all dependent on if he signs. But it would be pretty cool.

^Jagr might be motivated personally to achieve a record, but you should never question his dedication to hockey. The biggest reason he's still playing is because he is so passionate about the game and passionate about winning as much as possible (several interviews I can recollect where this is his answer).

You don't play as a 45 year old if you're not an incredibly driven and passionate player. Think Chelios. Think Recchi. Jagr's character is comparable to those kinds of players. He's only become more driven over time, and is definitely not the same player mentally as he was in New York or Washington.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing he's chasing personal records. If he's breaking point and goal records, that means he's scoring and contributing. Any team will take that any day of the week from a player.

Sure, it's just been mentioned several times in this thread like it was a bad thing, and I wanted to correct the thinking about his attitude. I wasn't really trying to single you out or anything.

One could add Niedermayer or Bourque to that list too. Jagrs' passion for the game will pay dividends to the Flames - regardless of any personal records he achieves.

It think that this market would explode over Jagr. The positive financial fallout can't be lost on the flames organization.

The only question I have is : would it be a jersey fail to get jagrs number put on some 80s silks?

Because he hasn't picked up a pen. Do you legitimately believe he doesn't have a single offer on the table?

I don't think he has an offer on the table.

This. It has been quite the emotional rollercoaster over the last couple of months. With nothing transpiring. I will say this: it has given us at CP lots to talk about over what would normally be a dry off-season. Better than panicking over Gaudreau's contract extension last off-season.

From what you can tell? How much can anyone actually know about a player's "desires" simply by watching from the stands or behind his television?

I get so tired of these sorts of anecdotally derived projections from nothing substantive.

And another story from The Hockey News

Quote:
Jagr, one will recall, played for Gulutzan back during the 2012-13 season when the current Flames coach was the bench boss of the Dallas Stars. Jagr, then 40, had signed with the Stars ahead of the lockout-shortened campaign and spent 34 games in Dallas before being dealt to the Boston Bruins for a package that included Lane MacDermid, Cody Payne and a 2013 first-round selection, which was used to selection Jason Dickinson. During his short stay with the Stars, Jagr was fairly productive, positing 14 goals and 26 points while averaging 18-plus minutes per night.
Quote:
Per NHL.com, when asked about Jagr earlier this past season, Gulutzan praised Jagr’s strength and hockey IQ. "We clipped some clips, I remember back in Dallas, that we sat and watched as a coaching staff going, 'Oh my God, how did he even do that?’ ” Gulutzan said, according to NHL.com.
Quote:
Worth noting is that if Jagr were to land back with Gulutzan and head to Calgary, he may not assume a top-six role. Over the past two seasons, Jagr had been a fixture on the top two lines in Florida, but Calgary’s forward group is deeper with less opportunity for the veteran to crack the top two lines on the wing. He could, however, fit perfectly in a third-line role alongside Kris Versteeg and Sam Bennett.
Quote:
The one area Jagr would absolutely get a look in Calgary, regardless of where he fits into the forward group, would be the power play. Jagr has managed 13 goals and 24 points on the power play, the 100th-best mark among all forwards in the league, over the past two seasons. Calgary’s power play with Jagr could be lethal. Already the 10th-best unit last season, it could crack the top five if it were to add even more scoring punch.
Quote:
The fit being there for Jagr, however, could come down to how much interest the Flames have and at what price. Still without a deal in place for Sam Bennett, which is a contract that could cost Calgary a few million, the Flames have $7.17 million in cap space, and any deal for Jagr could chew up at least a couple million, if not more.

Yup exactly. And when Chelios was 45 going on 46 - even though he had just won the stanley cup with the team - he was released by the Wings and sent to pasture.

Isn't this whole forum pretty much based on personal observations from the stands or the TV?

And if the Flames feel they have to fill a hole on RW with an older veteran .... not signing Iginla would a serious disappointment to me as a fan of this team. Not that i think Iginla would be any better than Jagr - but picking Jagr over someone who is arguably the best player to ever wear a Flames jersey - and is more or less in the same position as Jagr - is odd to say the least. That is assuming Iginla is interested in returning here ... and i'm not getting into that debate.
