Stick Iginla on the Monahan line with Ferland. Make it a line of three big players who can physically dominate the opposition.

Gaudreau - Bennett - Chiasson
Ferland - Monahan - Iginla
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Stajan - Brouwer

Those are four fantastic lines right there. That'd be one of the deepest lineups in the NHL, easily.
Monahan lacks foot speed. Pairing him with an even slower Iginla means the puck would stay in the Flames end.

I'm obviously a yes vote. If this is his last chance and we are a playoff team, you have to try to bring him back.

I believe he would be an excellent add to the locker room and provide solid depth on the RW.

Bring Jarome Home.

voted no.

Given the arc the team is on and the type of player they need, Iginla is not a good fit. The game has moved past him.

He's still my favourite Flame of all time, and I do want him back..but to sign a one day contract and retire a Flame. If a front office job came out of it as well, then that's a bonus.

I said no in the poll, but it is a soft no. I think he might be a decent add on the PP. I just worry that the speed of the game has passed him. The cap hit can't be ignored and the price would have to be beneficial. I can't see it as a plan A type move. Maybe as a plan B or C if things fall through at the deadline.

I've still seen no reason to bring him back that makes sense.

Depth scoring? No, he has 7 points.

Toughness? Do we really need more? Ferland, Engelland, and Hathaway have that covered.

Nostalgia is a stupid reason to bring him back. We likely aren't winning the Stanley Cup this year. People need to realize that their fantasy of Iginla coming back to win a cup here is never happening.

hey, I get it. I loved Iggy too, and if it wasn't for a certain Finnish goaltender, he'd easily be my favourite Flames player of all time. And that's exactly why I don't want him back. The Flames were going nowhere with him in his 30s, and moving on was the right direction. I don't see how bringing him back now does anything apart from being a feel good story for fans, which would in my opinion turn into the opposite very quickly once people realize that this Iggy is not the Iggy from 2004, or 2008, or even 2012. He's turning 40 next year, he's lost a step or two and he's on pace for 9 goals this year. Some people don't seem to have realized that he's a different player now, perfectly demonstrated by the "he can be on a line that physically dominates" post by TheScorpion.

I really don't want Iggy to come back and have lots of fans disappointed because he can't fulfill their unrealistic expectations. That's really not the kind of career ending I'd wish on him.

We kicked him out the door, who says he even wants to come back?

Absolutely yes. A RH RW who can score actually fills a need on this team. Even if he plays a bit role on the 4th line with some PP time he can be a useful addition on the ice and he can definitely be useful off the ice, as a mentor with veteran leadership who can also be a focal point for the media/fans during the playoffs which could take some pressure off our core and let them just play. Not to mention the good karma of us then being the feel good team of the playoffs with all neutral fans pulling for us.

Best case scenario - it's a magical fairybook ending with the Flames winning the Cup and Iggy playing a role very similar to Lanny in 89. Yes this is dream world but with the lack of elite teams in the West this year it's not impossible either.

Worst case scenario - we give up a mediocre asset (ie. mid-round draft pick) and it doesn't work out. Not really that bad as we have no commitment to him after this season.

The good far outweighs the bad and if the Flames are looking like a sleeper contender at the deadline (top 2 in division) i could really see Iggy waiving to come here and think/hope the Flames would also consider him.

Count me in for operation #bringhomejarome

I voted no. I was initially enthusiastic, but after reading the debate on here and a few IRL conversations my mind has been changed.

The risk that he could be a distraction and that he game has diminished too much does seem to outweigh the benefit he would bring at this point. The team doesn't seem to be lacking leadership at the moment and they made it through a frustrating season last year as well as a tough start together.

There is a high chance that the Flames are short 2 wingers at some point after the deadline. Right now it just so happens that Bouma returned when Versteeg went down. If another winger goes down who steps in? Right now it's Shinkaruk or Vey. I'd way rather have Iginla in the lineup during the playoffs than Shinkaruk or Vey.

What's the risk if he's acquired for next to nothing and GG doesn't put him in the lineup over guys who are performing?

I'd love to have him back but I voted no because I just don't think it makes sense for the Flames.

There is his on ice fit and the other stuff. By other stuff I mean the room, chemistry, media distraction etc.

On ice, I think we could probably use him if he's rejuvenated by a return to Calgary. Those old man legs may feel a bit younger if he rejoins the Flames. Haha remember when we used to say a change of scenery out of Calgary would do him good? Never thought I'd say maybe a change of scenery involving a move to Calgary would be in the cards. Our winger depth isn't great and maybe Iggy could help.

However, that is outweighed by the room and media. Bringing back your former captain and the media ####storm it would cause just wouldn't be worth it. Plus, what if he failed? Oh man it would be ugly. It only works if he comes back and succeeds.

We also have to consider if Treliving would do it, not just if we as fans would want it and if we think it would work. I don't think we would be willing to give up as much as the Avs want, even if it isn't very much, and I doubt Treliving would want to.

Corny as it sounds I'll say my heart votes yes but my head says no.

Actually having Iggy take some of the focus and what away from the young guys would be great. And as Bourques Twin has mentioned it's welcomed depth if one of options is Linden Vey.

The only reason for a yes would be if the Flames have a real need for that player, at that time, at the right price.

To bring him back because he is Jarome Iginla would be short sighted. The 2016/2017 Flames are not a Disney movie and should not be operating on the basis of looking for a warm happy feeling.

well it's not like acquiring Iginla and playing Vey are their only options. There'll be rental wingers available who are quicker and come without the baggage.

Those of you voting no, I just don't know why or when you lost that romantic touch to your fandom. Perhaps it's just the way things are these days. We're all too busy looking at contract status, being conservative for the future of our team, over/undervaluing a player based on a stat line, declining or not...perhaps there's just no room for a bit of romanticized fandom in what has become modern fandom. I'm very much the same, but not when it comes to Iggy. It would be too great of a story.

...Iggy wearing the Flaming C and raising the cup would be absolutely beautiful. I'd cry tears of joy.

Voted yes, and I sincerely hope it happens.
Well said! It would be glorious if it ended that way. Most likely it wont but the chance that it might would be oh so worth it.

Its sad the reaction any player over the age of 29 gets on these boards.

And this. We dont have crazy forward depth as it is. I'd take a slower Iggi in the playoffs over Vey any day of the week!

I think if we're in the playoff picture come the deadline (which I expect we will be) that it would be welcome added depth at a position we're weakest in, as well as bolster the power play.

I can see being lukewarm on it as Iggy as lost a step and may struggle in an up tempo system...

but I just have a feeling the rekindling of having him back in a Flames jersey would be lightning in a bottle and would translate to magic and a be feel good story.

I can hear it now:

"Flames power play goal Scoooooooored by Number 12... Jaroooooooooooome Iginla. Assist to Number 13 Johnny Gaudreau!"

I vote YES!

No, please no. And I am a big Iggy fan.

The Flames should want no part of a guy that might be done. He isn't explosive anymore. He isn't scoring much. He isn't the same guy who left here. Nostalgia is a terrible reason to bring him back. There will be better options if we really believe we need a boost at the deadline.

Just as importantly, Iggy should want no part of the Flames. We will be in it tooth and nail to the end. First in the division is a possibility, but so is missing out entirely as I believe it will be close. He should go to the Rangers. Or the Habs. Or the Hawks. I don't really care, so long as it is a really good team that has a legit chance, because from what I have seen, this should be his last chance.
