That unit going on the incredible hot stretch pulled our power play out of the gutter. It's the only reason it's a respectable number league wide now.

It's cooled off as of late, but they're still moving the puck well. Every game the commentary speaks to this.

We'll probably have to agree to disagree on Monahan and Ferland's usuage. But I do agree that the first unit did carry the PP out of the basement during their hot stretch. But since then it has cooled off considerably since and looks like teams have adjusted and figured out. The second PP unit was actually looking more dangerous for a while there.

But there was a change that was made just a couple games ago where they had Versteeg and Gaudreau switch to their off wing to create more one timer opportunities and it did work with Versteeg potting one in. But I'm still steadfast in believing that the team needs to have more of a down low presence to diversify and keep defenders guessing and honest and to me, Monahan would work well there.

For the record I definitely think Ferland's shot is better than Monahan's, Ferland can snipe it literally from anywhere. We've seen many examples in the last couple weeks. I don't think Monahan has the same type of velocity behind his.

Ferland and surprisingly Backs, tied for the hardest shots in the Flames skills competitions.

Clone Johnny and pull the goalie. I like it!

Not sure what woke Coach Gully up. Ferly was playing 6-8 minutes a night, while Brouwer and Chaisson were given all the premium minutes in all best situations. FINALLY after almost an entire season he puts Brouwer where he belongs as a $4.5 million third liner; and Chaisson where he belongs keeping the seat warm for Curtis Lazar on the 4th line right side until that kid gets his confidence back. Ferly is there to stay Flames fans. 79 has always been slow to adapt. He's now adapted. Some would say FINALLY.

We can make a bunch of reasons as to why or why not ferk should or shouldn't be tried as the slot Mctriggerman.

I see no reason not to at least give it a try though. It's not like its outlandish. Try it, if it works or at least looks good, keep it until it needs tweaking again.

I like this idea, but why not mess with their heads and put Ferk there sometimes and put Mony there others. More versatility on the PP just means more difficult to defend. Ferly in the middle is certainly more of a load than Mony. But I think Mony is very good in that position, yet easier to shove around.

Brouwer was making loads of little plays on the PP that made a lot of the goals possible. Timely screens, tying up defenders sticks, etc. His own production is disappointing though he's contributed in other small ways.

I don't have any stats to back this up, but I feel that Mony has a quicker release and is a more accurate shooter from the slot than Ferland is. However, Ferland does have the muscle and willingness to hold his screen in front of the goalie.

PP - 20.1% (12th)
PK - 81.5% (11th)

That's for the whole season, so it includes the first 2 months of being worst at both.

Still need more screens and guys entering the zone properly . When they are lazy they dump it in and rarely retrieve it before it gets dumped out.

Ducks have an awesome kill so I've lowered my expectations for the power play as to not be disappointed if we come up dry on 4 to 6 power plays.

I hope I am wrong and that Cameron has them executing better tonight.

Final 2016-2017 special team sneks!

Power Play
20.2%, 10th in the league
Total: 52/257

Penalty Kill
81.6%, 12th in the league
Total: 226/277

Combined
101.8%, 15th in the league
Boston is 1st with a combined 107.4% (21.7%/85.7%).
Edmonton is 8th with a combined 103.6% (22.9%/80.7%).
Colorado is 30th with a combined 89.2% (12.6%/76.6%).
There are 17 teams with 100% or over.

The Flames special teams snek finishes over the line in two of three categories this year, just finishing 0.4% below the line in penalty kill. Great results after a repulsive special teams start to the season.
