Look how they structured Brodie's deal - TJ made $3.9 this year because Gio made $4.05.

I would argue Brodie is more valuable to the team than Johnny given we had Johnny for 79 games and Brodie's early season absence sunk us as much as goaltending.

Until they absolutely have to violate it, I'm fine with them not.

Again, Gio asked for $9. He got $6.75 as a UFA.

Johnny probably deserves more than Monahan and MacKinnon. Does he deserve $2.2M more per season?

No.

I'm not arguing that Gaudreau should make $8.5 million dollars. I'm saying the Gio cap would be a stupid way for a GM to handcuff themselves needlessly.

The argument could be made that Brodie, at the time of signing his deal, was not better than Gio. If he had signed the deal the next year it would look quite a bit different IMO.

It's not a good comparison. Forwards tend to make more money, regardless of who's more important.

I find it hard to believe management would be so dumb as to use that as a yardstick, even the grease aren't that dumb

The total hand-jobbery of "Team North America" from the broadcast crew working this game makes me want them to lose. I always want whoever Hughson is cheering for to lose, but this is something else.

Hughson calling it like it is. Finland have done nothing worthy of talking about.

Giordano is getting paid for some years where he is highly unlikely to still be a top player.

Gaudreau's contract will be all prime years.

That's a consideration that should supersede any talk of a Gio cap IMO.

Wonder if they'll be any fights later in the tournament, like USA-Canada on Tuesday.

What the hell are they talking about Nathan Mackinnon playing almost 400 games already? That's unpossible, but they've said it twice.

He's played 218 games in the NHL. Still impressive, but you literally can't be 21 and have played 400 games.

It's not needless, and if they get the player for less than $6.75, then the brass balls of one Brad Treliving need to be respected.

Nathan MacKinnon just signed a 7x$6.3 deal. I don't think the argument can be made that Gaudreau for sure is going to be the better player over the next seven years. I would say he probably is, but it's certainly not a slam dunk. Especially considering MacKinnon is three years younger and put up Gaudreau's rookie numbers in his draft year.

Johnny's coming off an impressive season, his rookie year was excellent, and he's a little older than Mack. That's worth a premium. But it's in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, not millions.

Hearing this segment, I'm convinced there's no way Gaudreau gets more than $6.75.
