I think creating a schedule for the GDT doesn't go quite far enough, we should also have a schedule for the posts within the GDTs. Sometimes posts 2 through 5 can just suck all the momentum that was built in the first post.

Reggie asked a while back: what made you a member here? If you go read the thread front to back, it was everyone's unanimous conclusion that this was the place to be as a Flames fan. So ask yourself, what distinguishes it from the many other Flames-related blogs or sites that encourage similar discussion? What makes CP so special?

To me, it's great community and great content.

I'm more of a lurker so I don't participate as much, but I really like reading the opinions and viewpoints on CP. And besides the discussion, I hit F5 like 100 times a day year round because of stuff like sureLoss news, CPF game days, AC highlights, Bingo's Game Takes. Just naming the ones off the top of my head.

So because of that, when drama stirs-up around someone who creates content - it's definitely a downer moment to me because it simultaneously kills both things that make CP such a good site.

I leave motivations for content creation as an entirely personal matter. All I care about is that they're putting out good subject matter and contributing to the community. It's what makes the 'Thanks' feature so ingenious - it allows people to show genuine appreciation without ever needing to take the effort to make a post about it.

Speaking of which, I suppose this is also my chance to publicly thank everyone for appreciating Around the League. Believe me, I regard each name fondly even if the list is long.
This was never about the content. I'm not sure how many times people have to say they appreciate the content before they're taken at their word. It's about people trying to section off their little chunk of a community that's supposed to be open. Regardless of whether they want to act like that wasn't the intention after being questioned on it.

People are acting like it's going to be mayhem if we just let people make threads. I bet max 30% of the time there are even two PGT's and that's when TONS of people are active on the site anticipating that exact moment at the same time. Now all of a sudden we're going to have piles and piles of GDT's because there's no schedule? Not happening. Again, people appreciate the effort that people put in, they just should stop trying to make it about them and put claims in on things. We all share this site, and maybe some others want to contribute too but weren't here in early September to sign up on some arbitrary unofficial schedule that someone whipped up.

As with everything in life this topic has a Simpsons equivalent. This thread is the Itchie and Scratchy focus group.

We all want organically created spontaneous inclusive game day threads (and PGTs for that matter) but we also want extensive content to read and to remind us how many excellent contributors there are on this site.

I love the effort people put in but I also hate it when some random tries to help out and they get attacked just for trying to chip in, as if they've moved in on someone else's territory. It's annoying when there are 3 PGTs but it's also annoying when people are so gung ho to be first that they create the thread with 30s left in the game. I think people want creating those threads to be viewed as a service not bragging rights.

Can't we all just get along?

Of course it's about content - and the hours of time a select group of posters are willing to invest to create that content. They proposed a schedule to ensure content gets created for each game, and presumably to avoid wasting hours of time with multiple people creating redundant content for the same game.

If someone posts a three line GDT what stops someone else from putting a long informative post in the same thread?

^ Because that's stupid. If I don't have time to read an entire thread, then I only want to read one post, and I don't want to have to scroll past the first post on my phone to try and find out what the lines are going to be for that night's game.

The OP should contain most, if not all, of the necessary information. If I started the Free Agency GDT without the necessary information to keep it going through the day, people would've gotten mad. The OP should be intended to house the write-up, lines, and projections for that day's game.

Nothing. Was even suggested by an early poster that perhaps there is a wiki plug-in or some other way to update the first post as a group to make that even easier. Still doesn't solve the problem of who will create the content and how to avoid redundant content and wasted effort. I don't believe the OP expressed a concern about who creates the thread. Some people assumed content and first post were linked, some people did not. Then, somehow, all hell broke loose.

Do you have a Bachelor Degree in Internet Forums or something? I feel like there is a generation gap here, some of us learned on the street, and you're fresh of University, tying to make your mark in the forum game. All that theory that no one really thinks about.

Just start the damn threads on the day if you wish. Throw in some line ups. Some permanent information and leave it at that. If you want to write anything longer, anything deeper and you feel it's first post worthy PM Bingo and ask if you can make it a damn article then.

He's modelling his posting after the way sureLoss breaks news.

sureLoss makes one thread with one post, then edits it as updates occur, as well as the thread title and thread prefix. Keeps it readily accessible and doesn't add to the post count on a page.

I wish I lived in a world where I thought people would be mad if I didn't update threads I started.

I'd probably feel very important.

Well that's a major part of the problem with him I suppose, desperately wants to be apart of the forum, wants to feel important here, wants to be feel included... when if he'd just settle down, post a couple times per day, relax, eventually some might think "he's a good poster".

Alas that's nothing new, nothing he hasn't been told, nothing he hasn't ignored. When you do the dramatic feet stomp and say you're done with the forum only to return 45 minutes later you know there is an issue.

People always say I post a lot every day, and this is true. I'm trying to get it down, and I will. I said I was leaving the forum for a while. I was exaggerating a little bit, but what I did mean was that I'm going to try to post a lot less -- and that means maybe posting a few times a week. I'm getting back into the swing of things right now and it's going to go down for sure.

But anyhow... I always laugh when these reprimands of my posting habits come from someone who actually posts more than I do per day.

MrMastodonFarm: 8.73 posts per day
TheScorpion: 7.00 posts per day

...that's subjective, ya dink.

But my point stands. I'm posting less than a lot of people, yet people always call me out for posting a ton. I'm going to pose a question to anyone who has ever felt annoyed or spammed by my posting: is it the frequency or content that annoys you about my posts?
