yeah,I just spent some time in the cbc comments area and......wow. I honestly didn't know so many Canadians felt this negatively about Alberta. It's a little disheartening to be honest.

Do you know if those Firebag flights are rescue ones, or the scheduled charter ones that WJ normally does?

Don't even want to comment on that internet moron.

I just heard a dad choke up on the radio reaching out to his kids. Wow, right in the feels. Composed himself, and immediately began praising the emergency response.

It's funny the contrasting levels of class from this poor dad and that internet troll.

Three are in the air right now flying YYC-Firebag. Based on the flight numbers, the first one is chartered by Suncor, and the latter 2 are WestJet's own rescue flights.

#### this is brutal, been watching this all afternoon. A few friend's places already have burned down and I have worked with many suppliers in Fort Mac through previous companies I've worked for and it seems like all their communities have been affected.

Hopefully weather tomorrow doesn't end up being as projected and ends up destroying the city even more.

I don't watch alot of news and I've been lagging in my CP checkin. So my first knowledge of all this was when my mom sent me an email saying that my cousin is up ####z Creek was the first I had found out about it all. Half of her family went north and the other half south. All I know is they likely lost their house, but everyone is ok.
Freakin' scary images.

I'm not sure what WestJet is doing as far as selecting who is going on these flights. They're going to Firebag, which is Suncor's airport, and not YMM - so I don't know if that means Suncor is directing this operation or if these planes are just for Suncor or what.

There's also a limit of ~6 kennels per plane and only in the front hold to guarantee safety of the animals, but that's negligible really and could be waived.

Looks like Flight Nos. TSH489, WS8975 and WS8981, if anyone wants to check out the flight radar.

One WestJet is on the way back to Calgary and I believe there's still 3 up there, two for Edmonton and another for Calgary.

i work in emergency services in the north. havent seen resources this taxed before, radios have been non stop all day. still get the feeling this is going to get worse before it gets better. I was in slave lake for the 2011 fires and its amazing how many mistakes have been repeated already even just 5 short years later. thoughts are with the families, its going to be a long road to recovery.

Not many Canadians do. Kamloops is full of people devastated for Fort McMurray. Over the last year so many people have been sharing concern about how bad the job situation is with oil. There's little or no hated from anyone I've talked to here ever. And even less in Ontario
