Trade for Yakupov (price may be high, but damn he fits so good, protect the pick obviously), resign the youngins, keep wideman, resign Nakladal, sign Reimer and Ortio, send Smid and Raymond to the AHL. Pribyl, Janko, Poirier, Wotherspoon waiting in the AHL for a callup.
You have 4 or 5 legitimate top 6 forwards, a killer defense, and an average goalie.

No way in hell should the Flames trade the 2017 first round pick and especially to the Oilers.

Nor is Yakupov worth that at this point.

Yakupov is nowhere near that valuation. No way, ever.
I'd maybe pay a low 2nd for him, but that's a lot.

Yakupov has more value than Calgary fans would think, and less than Oiler fans would like. Something in the Colborne, Kulak and an early second would be the range, IMO. An established middle 6 winger, a solid B/B+ prospect and a decent pick.

Established at what? Not a chance Flames are tossing a package like that at the Oilers for him. He has 50 goals on 252 career games. Nothing great. And I like Yakupov.

How is that the range? Colborne for Yak straight up would be a bad deal for the Flames. Colborne played to almost a 50-point pace and has size. Yakupov had 8 goals in 60 games this season and hasn't put up anything respectable since his rookie year.
I think a 2nd and prospect like Culkin would be an ok deal.

At this point, Colborne is looking better than Yakupov.

- Johnny and Mony sign matching 8 year $6.75 million year deals (Gio cap?)
- Colborne signs 3 years $2.5 million per
- Treliving continues his reign of terror by dropping the buy-out axe on Smid (if medically cleared), Raymond and Stajan
- Bring back UFA's Nakladal and Grant on cheap 1 or 2 year deals
- Wideman to NYI for Jaroslav Halak
- Ortio and 2016 2nd (Panthers - roughly 54th overall) to MIN for RFA Darcy Kuemper, and re-sign DK 2 years $1.5 million per
- Sign UFA's David Perron and Troy Brouwer to 4 year $4 million per year deals
1. Gaudreau (6.750) - Monahan (6.750) - Perron (4.000)
2. Colborne (2.500) - Backlund (3.575) - Brouwer (4.000)
3. M Ferland (0.825) - Bennett (0.925) - M Frolik (4.300)
4. L. Bouma (2.200) - D. Grant (0.800) - Hathaway (0.690)
Extra - Bollig (1.125) - F Hamilton or Jooris (0.800)
1. Giordano (6.750) - Hamilton (5.750)
2. TJ Brodie (4.650) - Engelland (2.916)
3. Jokipakka (0.900) - Nakladal (0.950)
Extra - Wotherspoon (0.900)
1. J. Halak (4.500)
2. Kuemper (1.500)
Smid buy-out (0.833)
Stajan buy-out (0.958)
Raymond buy-out (1.050)
Salary Cap - $74.0 million
Total Against - 71.0 million
Cap space - $3.0 million
- Perron adds a right hand shot to the top line, and some grit & agitating qualities. He's skilled and compliments elite players well, should be a solid fit.
- Brouwer adds size and grit/physicality to the top 9, and also another right hand shot
- Goaltending should upgraded significantly, especially if the new coach can instill better team defense and more Flames puck possession
- 4th line should be big, speedy, physical and hard to play against
- On D the hope would be that Jokipakka/Wotherspoon/Nakladal play well enough to push Engelland down the depth chart. There is cap space to add another solid Dman via UFA however, like Polak, Schenn, Trotman, Schlemko, etc

I feel like even Culkin + 2nd rounder is overpayment. Maybe Dallas' 2nd rounder + Riley Bruce would be the most I would give up

It would also get Treliving fired, as it would mean he literally did nothing over the summer.

Really? I'm curious as to what changes you expect to see this off season and where your realistic roster projection differs from that one. I don't count re-signing 6 free agents and bringing in a starting goalie(not to mention the draft) as doing nothing either.
