Wasn't Stephen Mandel appointed the Minister of Health by Prentice? What kind of education did he have to gain that position?
Jobs are out there, might not be the over paid work that some Albertans were comfortable with but work is there.

No kidding. When does 'NDP Energy Minister' open up? I'm applying for that!

If she was the Minister of Caribou Protection, then yes, she would be doing what needs to be done to protect the interests of the voting Caribou population of Alberta.

Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation would probably be the most fun. It's about to get billions of dollars a year to play with.

I'd legislate that all taxi drivers are required by law to exclusively operate horse-drawn carriages.
Only want fares to the airport now?

Any guess when the last Energy Minister had any background in the oil industry? Seemed to work for the cons so I'm not sure why this is a problem now.....

There is a Caribou issue. Main problem is seismic lines creating lunch corridors for predators.

A good article on how industry is working to fix some of the issues it created in the past

Back in my consultant days, I saw at least a couple of dozen caribou. Lovely little creatures, actually.
Coolest thing I saw was a cougar crossing a small ROW about 20m in front of me. Good thing I had a canister of bear spray, not that that would have helped me.

Now lets ask the same question about GE. How much have we collectively spent on GE products or products with GE technology? Who has flown in an Air Plane? I bet if we added it up just with our small group the number would be in the tens of millions.
Oh but the advertising! Lets not forget about the advertising!!! So basically the argument is that the company advertising GE products is worth more than GE itself? Makes no sense.

Well i've spent money on facebook as an advertiser. I notice several other local businesses do the same, multiplied by regions all over the world...clearly the company makes money.

Don't think nobomba, or whatever name he's posting under now, really understands advertising.
The amount of people using Facebook on a daily basis is staggering. Even if the ad only gets 1 out of every 1000 people who view it, to follow thru and use your product/business, you're going to benefit massively. There are more than 1 BILLION Facebook accounts. Companies are spending millions of dollars to advertise during the Super Bowl for 30 seconds, to an audience less than 1/10th of that size.

it becomes a problem when its clear they have no idea what they are doing.
Besides I keep hearing "the cons did this too, the cons did that too"
yeah they did lots of dumb ass stuff and that is why they are no longer in power...thought people wanted change not the same old #### minus the experience

I think the biggest difference here is that although it's been common in Alberta's past for a minister to not necessarily have the best wealth of experience in a given ministry, the problem with the NDP is that the entire caucus has zero experience in Oil & Gas, Agriculture, Business, etc., and it's showing. And while in a Utopian world we'd all love to see a government that is completely separated from the commerce world, the reality is to strike a good balance of government you need to be able to make solid decisions that balance the wants of the citizens with the needs of the economy and industry.

^It's not even just that. It's the lack of empathy or care their party seems to have for the people that are actually going through tough times. To be in the middle of this #### show and then get up and start talking about how your number one concern on day 1 as energy minister is caribou just shows the striking lack of either comprehension of how serious the problems industry is actually facing are or how little you care even though you sound very silly saying that to a group of industry people. Or even your lack of judgement. This party just seems like they don't give a rats ass about any of the people suffering.
And if you're making those statements, good lord, what else are you thinking or saying because it shows a total inability to read the room. How are you a politician even? It's like going to a group of environmentalists and telling them your number one concern as environment minister on day 1 was how much tourism dollars we could drum up by undoing all restrictions in Banff national park.

I don't agree that they should be bending over backwards to assist the oil and gas industry. It's no surprise to see oil prices drop and the boom to be over for a period, as it should be no surprise for the people that aren't working in these positions right now.
They could throw money at the industry, but what does that gain long term? I have no problem with a royalty review, this is something that should have been done quite a few years ago. She is the energy minister but I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for her to tell people. Oil prices are in the gutter, oil companies are laying people of because of it. You don't like that she is talking about the environment however energy and environment are tied together right now.
The biggest problem I have is the fact that whatever this government does they will be criticized because they are the NDP. Just like the fact that many of the ministers don't have experience in the field that they are controlling, yet it's been like that for a long, long time. The Farmers complaining is another example, these are the types of regulations that should have been in place prior to this year, they are in place in other provinces yet it's going to kill the family farms. The local media feeds this anger, and it's getting quite pathetic.
