I think Hamonic is much more than his 3 assists would indicate but it might take tuning into a few isles games and actually watching him before we suggest trading our captain..

Why? Do you think the amount of Islanders games any of us watch matter?
Pretty sure the Flames pay Burke, Treliving, Conroy and their pro scouts to do that.

I think most people love Gio, but with his play so far this season and an upcoming lucrative long-term contract it's not surprising some are concerned.
If Gio was playing like last season Gio I don't think his name would be brought up as much, if at all. But that extension is looking a bit scary. Hopefully he's just working out some kinks and gets back to that form soon so that contract doesn't look so daunting.

25 year old Robyn Regher would be pretty sweet.
Flames could use a top flight stay at home dman. No one currently fills that role.

I know it is frustrating the "what have you done for me lately" mentality is strong in some posters. Gio is coming back from a really major injury and does not look like himself. This is a player that many in the media had as a top 25 player in the league. A few bad games is not going to erase that opinion for me.
I do get it though younger = better when a team is rebuilding like the Flames are.

Lots of reasons. There tends to be a lot of good discussions (this thread), news round-ups, Sureloss newsbreaking, and ultimately, I'm a Flames fan. I just thought it was a bit bizarre that you cited opinions on a message board as evidence of Hamilton's weak defensive game. Just cause I take evaluations of talent on here with a grain of salt doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading them.

I would put my money on Hamonic going to the Jets. I would hate to see Big Buff go, but the Jets can free up enough cap space to sign Ladd, and possibly obtain a draft prospect out of the deal. Other than that, Myers would look good in an Isles uniform. I would never part with Trouba, and the Jets cannot afford to trade a LHD, like Enstrom.

Jets: Hamonic for Big Buff (his pending UFA status is a deal breaker)
Flames: Gio
Oil: Reinhart haha jk. Eberle. (Doesnt fill defense spot)
Canucklheads: Hamhuis + good prospect or pick.
Or.... and I really think Hamilton has upside but:
Hamonic and Strome for Hamilton and Hudler. Think about it. You overpay in Hamilton but underpay to get Strome. Its a tradeoff.

Me before reading this thread:
Hamonic, don't know much about him, he's a decent player I guess.
Me after reading this thread:
MUST HAVE HAMONIC NOW

For those contemplating giving over our captain in a trade, I wonder who becomes captain without Gio? The young guys are not ready. Hudler? Brodie?

If the isles are looking for a top 6 winger, I don't know how they couldn't consider Hudler. The guy is good and I think he'd be better with a guy like Tavares (who wouldn't) but he also provies leadership, knows how to win, knows how to play both sides of the puck and he's affordable. The Flames could also give up one or both of Wideman or Russell to fill the hole left by Hamonic. The isles have to be considered in "win now" mode and having Wideman as just a PP specialist who doesn't have to play those big minutes would probably help them. Russell provides some offense but he's a shot blocker and the isles need that.
I don't think it would be as easy as Hudler + Wideman/Russell though. Salary would have to be retained on anyone we'd send over and we'd likely have to include a draft pick or prospect. I could see them having interest in Jones too though as he's putting up good numbers, has size and can slide up and down their lineup. Maybe one of our D prospects like Wotherspoon(meh) or Sieloff would be enticing to them too.
I think the Flames do have what it takes to get a deal done, it just depends on if the islanders have interest in what we have to offer.

My guess is that they would go with A's only for the rest of the year and choose a new captain in the off season.

I wonder if this actually goes down this season.
Snow is a hard ass who could force Hamonic to play the rest of the year in New York if he doesn't get what he wants in return.

Barrie for Hamonic makes the most sense of any of the chatter I have heard.

Dreger: According to sources I spoke to yesterday, Hamonic "willing to soften a little bit, maybe," expand to other Western Conf teams
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "Winnipeg would be the No. 1 choice." Request was originally based on #NHLJets, #Oilers, #Flames, #Canucks

Islanders will likely have a lot of options so I'm not really sure where he will land. Would like to see the Flames add him but at what cost? I don't see any one for one deals that work really. A trade where we include a big piece and they add is kind of intriguing though looking at their prospect pool or quality young players.

wow some serious over valuing of Hamonic and under valuing our players (and all other players for that matter)
