That was a hell of a half of Rugby, the pace was blistering.

Spedding and Picamoles absolutely destroyed on that last AB try.

Just a brilliant, clinical display from the All Blacks. Incredible skill and speed, France were just completely dominated from start to finish.

Sets up a great semi-final next week against the Boks.

And that try is the exclamation mark for the Pumas. Looking like all Southern Hemisphere semi-finals.

That was a good game for about 65 minutes. Argentina played really well, and Ireland just had nothing left in the tank. Too bad as they were so good with a full line-up. The only hope for the North now is Scotland...which would be a massive upset.

The reffing in rugby is making it tough to watch the game.

What is the point of stopping the game every 2 minutes to go to the TMO only to get the wrong decision time after time.

This was looking like it could go have been a great game.

The Scots are resilient it may still turn out to be a good game despite Craig Jouberts best efforts to ruin it.

Craig Joubert hotfooted it off the field in a hurry after that. Shocker.

Because then he can at least say he followed due process.
The end twas a case of he SHOULD have gone upstairs. The system was in place and he failed to use it.

Greig Laidlaw tells ITV Sport that the referee should have gone upstairs to review the final penalty decision.
And, by golly, he should have.
It looks clearly like Nick Phipps - the Australia scrum-half- got the final touch on the ball before offside Scotland prop Jon Welsh instinctively grabbed it.
That should have been an accidental offside and a scrum-down Australia.

That's what's so frustrating about the system they seem to use it a ton some times and then completely ignore it later.

And you gotta wonder what was going through his head why not?

A look at the clock pretty much tells him that his decision is a game deciding one, so why not be 100% sure given the magnitude of it?

The system was there for him and is in place to take that controversy out of the game. For whatever reason he chose not to use it.

What a game!

I was pulling for the Wallabies, but the Scots really, really earned that one, they put in a hell of a gutsy effort and, in my opinion, were the better team.

Slava and I watching it in the pub with another disenfranchised Wallaby fan.

"If Foley misses again I'll string him up by his toes!"

But as Slava so expertly stated, if Foley has even an average day at the office that still would have been a comfortable Wallaby win, but he didnt and they were making an unbelievable number of mistakes.

And as someone who has been extolling the virtues of Rugby officiating all tournament it sucks to see a QF decided by a bad call especially with all of the resources available to the ref.

At the end of the day, kind of a robbery, I think the Scots would have fared well against the Jags, they could have had a fair shot at the final.

Regardless of that error though, that was a great game. The Scots deserved better, but still, it was close and exciting. I like the TMO for the most part. I think it is a sensible approach and helps get things right more often than not.

I can't believe they allowed the game to end on such a blunder. Terrible decision to not use TMO for such an important call. All tournament long they have set a new standard of transparent refereeing and then, with one play, they go and wipe all that out and create all sorts of controversy again. Frustrating

Wow, the Aussies sure got lucky, I was not expecting that to be close at all. It just goes to show how important Pocock is to the Wallabies.

Anyhow, the all Southern Hemisphere semis should be exciting.

I am going by memory, but IIRC, there are 4 reasons the on field official can go to TMO:

1: ground in goal
2: success of a kick at goal
3: infringement in build up or prevention of a try
4: acts of foul play

He didn't have the option to go to the TMO.

I was happy to see the Irish get smashed by a strong Argentinian side. Hopefully, people will start to give them the credit they deserve.

New Zealand, yeah, well what can be said. The wrong French team showed up, but too be honest, I am not sure it would have mattered which French team showed up.

SA and Wales, I was pulling for Wales all day long. They played the more positive rugby, but for one piece of brilliance it could have been different.

Aussies, thank god....but to be fair 1/4's shouldn't be cake walks.

SO there it is.

He made the wrong call, but confirmation that he could not have gone to the TMO

http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/news/115761

Quote:
It is important to clarify that, under the protocols, the referee could not refer to the television match official in this case and therefore had to rely on what he saw in real time. In this case, Law 11.3(c) should have been applied, putting Welsh onside. The appropriate decision, therefore, should have been a scrum to Australia for the original knock-on.
