Scary.
I think this is just the sign of the times in society where people feel the need to shame everyone that makes a mistake. Regardless of how you feel about adultery it's really not the public's business. I highly doubt every single person with an account on this site actually cheated on their spouse. I don't listen to CJAY but it was noted here they were considering broadcasting the list of Calgarians. How shameful is that? Do people these days really get that much satisfaction from the misery of others?

These people need a solid dose of perspective and to seriously relax. Maybe go to Mexico for a week or something.

I agree with locke....just not how he said it. It's ok to have a beer than drive like he just said but being impaired and driving isn't and I don't think he means that. Drunk driving is wrong, having a drink or two then driving isn't (providing you're not impaired after 1 or 2 drinks).

Society is messed up in that way though. Everyone has some sort of secret but the things that people get mad about are just dumb. Having a drink then driving isn't the same as impaired driving, the guy who shot the lion did nothing wrong (if anything he was the victim of bad guiding and it's wrong that he's paying the price for it), cheating isn't illegal (immoral and wrong but not illegal).

There are far worse things going on in life and people should maybe focus their misplaced energy on those things.

As an ex-user of the site that has no problem telling my story, I think that people are listening more to the advertising then what this site turned into, which was a place for casual relationships. When I was on the site there was a lot of single and divorced people on there.

So about 6-7 years ago, my drinking/rock band buddy told me about a legit website where you can find causal relationships. Since I was sick of being the "nice guy" and getting used I tried it out and found 3 almost 4 relationships on the site.

The one that was almost a relationship was recently divorced; however when I wasn't able to meet one night at a pub due to work and she flipped out decided that it was something that would be more trouble then it was worth.

The second was with a girl that was in the middle of getting a divorce, as she fell out of love with her husband, they had been drifting apart for a while from what she said. Last time I seen her she's happy in a new relationship.

The third was with a lady that was cheating, she was in a bad relationship and should have left him (and ended up leaving him). We still talk and is in a happy relationship.

The fourth was with lady whom her and her husband wanted to experiment with an open relationship, they were happy and knew about each others activity. The husband wanted to meet me; however I found that weird so we never ended up meeting.

Really we don't know why some people were on that site and if it has anything to do with there life now or if it has anything to do with the advertising. My experience was 1 out of 4 girls were cheating.

As a since I am in security and once in a while a White Hat hacker, this hacking team is probably an ex-employee, who abused a company that had a single password for all their privileged accounts. Most hacks start from inside a company, so I would have to ask, why they felt the moral outrage after they stopped receiving money in their bank account from the company? I guess at least more job security as long as these "hacks" continue in these tough times in Calgary.

Oh and yes my Girlfriend of 4 years who I am having a little minion with soon does know that I had an account (finally deleted it once they got rid of the stupid pay policy)

So there's actually some real women on the site? According to site reviews on the internet most users view it as a scam and the majority of women are all bots. Seems like it's just a place to rip off males.

Bot profiles are really easy to pick out on dating sites. If they look perfect it's probably too good to be true.

I know a few males who were on that site that were meeting women. I don't know what it is like now but when I was on there were women there.

I was LOLing at the "I was sick of being a nice guy and being used" bit that I've heard a thousand times before. Mostly I was just busting his balls a bit.

Yeah, I guess I should have figured... I mean, I've heard it before too (in the context you are undoubtedly referring to, which is "why aren't women vaginal vending machines I can put niceness into and get sex out of"), but just on the basis of what he said I think that inference is a bit unfair. It's not like the "nice guy getting trodden on because he's not assertive enough" thing doesn't happen either. You seem to jump too easily on preferred memes.

Terrible and if they do it they should be sued to hell.
I know people that have cheated on their partners. It isn't right. Frankly it is terrible. But it doesn't mean they are bad people. It means they are people that made bad choices and ultimately there are consequences for that.

But they are also humans. Humans make mistakes.

^ My main thing isn't that... well, it partly is; dishonesty is bad and hurts people but this is rather disproportionate punishment. But the main thing is the people who were privately using this site for completely unobjectionable reasons in a modern context: either they're in an open relationship, or a couple wants to spice things up (terrible cliché but you know what I mean), or going through a divorce, or already separated, or just looking for something non-serious in any context where they aren't misleading anyone, being exposed like this is just awful.

Obviously the ramifications for closeted LGBT individuals are a whole other thing that on its own makes this totally unforgivable.

Tell that to the person whose world was turned upside down by their partner who decided to have an affair. Coward, scum of the earth are just a few terms my sister uses to describe her ex.

Yes there are consequences for the cheater but often forgotten is the emotional damage they do to their partners and the long term effects.

That's "often forgotten"? I don't think so. That's usually the focus.

Yes, they're horrible people for what they do but what's being done still isn't legal. It's like hurting someones feelings, it's not illegal but it's still wrong. Cheating is terrible but do you really think this site made anyone cheat? Do you think everything was fine with these people in their marriages and they saw a website and became cheaters without a second thought???? If they're on the website, they were likely going to cheat anyway. What these hackers did was wrong. The ends doesn't justify the means. I'm pretty sure no one here is saying cheating is ok but it seems some people are saying what the hackers did is ok.

It would be fun to see a poll on this thread. Is what the hackers did ok and options like that.

This might get me piled on a bit, but also having known people who've cheated and been cheated on, cheating generally doesn't happen in a vacuum. That doesn't make it right, but most of the people who do it aren't monsters.

I find the % of account not believable, mainly that a lot must have been fake, bots, or using other people accounts to pump their subscriber numbers up in the past.

I am relatively young, active on the internet, and have looked at dating related sites before. I have NEVER heard of Ashley Madison in my entire life until now. I am I to believe that there are 100,000s of people 18+ that are using a site locally that I have never heard of? Not very likely.

A lot of BS for the accounts and account numbers, and it is going to cause a lot of trouble to people that may not deserve it.
