Default Bennett to play first game all season tonight for Kingston

Whether he is 6' or 6'1"... He couldn't be called a small center as long as he fills out. Which I'm sure he will. Love the physical aspect of his game. Something the flames will need.

I have made the comparison to Clarke as well. I can't believe people would dismiss a comparison, simply due to a single event. Do you people not understand that a comparison doesn't mean he will have EXACTLY THE SAME CAREER, INCLUDING EVERY INDIVIDUAL INCIDENT? A comparison simply means they are similar type players.

And IMO, Bennett reminds me a LOT of Clarke. Tenacious, fearless, and absolutely DRIVEN to win. That is how I remember Clarke - not one single incident during the war-on-ice Summit Series. Clarke was a great hockey player. But what made him exceptional, what got his name on the Cup twice, was a single-minded determination to win. And Bennett has that same quality as much as anyone I can think of since.

Another guy that had that quality was Forsberg - great call, 868904! I am not sure that he is as good of a comparison, as Forsberg had incredible strength and an unreal ability to control the puck along the boards. But with respect to determination and an unrelenting refusal to quit, I think Clarke and Forsberg are excellent comparisons.

If Bennett can elevate his skills at the NHL level to be anything even remotely close to those two, Calgary fans are in for a treat. But one thing is for sure, he has their fire.

I certainly don't mind an edge. We just have to accept there will be penalties that go along with it.

That height is well over a year old now so wouldn't be a surprise if he gained half-three quarters of an inch. Would feel comfortable saying 6'1 to be honest.
Don't think it's fudged. I am 185cm, which is just under 6'1". I recently saw him listed at 185cm as well (can't remember where, sorry). And when I recently saw him at the arena, I would say that if he isn't exactly my height, he is marginally taller. He is definitely 6'1".

FeyWest: pretty sure Draisaitl is 6'2". He is pretty big. But like I said in the draft thread, Bennett probably isn't done growing and will end up at least 6'1" if not bigger, so the size factor should not have been part of the Oiler's decision. But of course, Oilers gonna oil.

With Monahan and Gaudreau as other core pieces, we have to get back to the league average in Penalty minutes somehow.

Poirier plays with an edge. A Poirier/Bennett line would be quite irritating for the opposition, assuming that both turn out as projected.

I have a lot of respect for Clarke as a player. But he was not just an edgy player or even a little dirty. he was a lot dirty. I remember him spearing a guy for no reason off at the faceoff. Before the puck dropped. Thinking back, he must ahve been waved out of the dot because he was staniding on the wing.

But don't get the wrong impression - if Bennett turns out to be Clarke or Forsberg or Richard in a combniination of skill and nastyness, I'm very OK with that. It's not like he will break a guys leg with a slash (that has to be hard to do) or take the cheap shots Clarke used to.

Hilariously in terms of games suspended in juniors Monahan edges out Bennett 10 games to 5 over their career.

What was it for? Maybe Monnie bottle his emotions and they cause him to suddenly snap.

I know, I watched him play. But the game has changed. No one is suggesting Bennett might be the same dirty SOB that Clarke was, only that he has the same ferocity. But yeah, Clarke could be a real ass at times.

Oh I'm with you and agree it was just an off the cuff jab at the oilers, if it was a size difference that made them pick Drai over Bennett then I'm glad because I see Bennett being one of if not THE hardest worker and competitor of the two if you say their skill is equal, if that's the case it's a huge oversight and I just think it's an oversight in general because before we drafted Bennett I liked him over all of the other 3. (I wanted C over D again because we've had so much trouble finding them)

Didn't know Monahan was such a goon... I'd hate to get on his bad side.

He'll make you toast, but he won't give you any jam to put on it.
