who did they replace him with???
Oh right, everyone here in toronto is absolutely certain that clarkson's crap year last year was a a complete fluke and that he's a perennial 20 goal guy, and will be that and more next season.

Compared to whom?
Komarov at 12 million over 4?
Likely a steal, compared to that. Raymond had more points last year than Komarov has played career NHL games.

He is fine defensively. His problem is that he is weak so he can easily get overpowered and fail to tie up his man or take the man out of the play.

It's a great deal at 1M because he's a 3M dollar hockey player in this economic reality.

I liked Raymond even when he was in Vancouver. Not sure where some poster think your going to get a 20-20 veteran with great speed for a million, that's an entry level deal basically.
I don't think that Vans downward spiral was completely anomalous to Raymond leaving.
Raymond is a very good player and I for one am glad to see him come here, and not just so he stops scoring on us.

Really?
You are still going on about this factually incorrect nonsense?
Why are you ignoring the reality of this?
The money the Flames gave him DOES NOT MATTER. Even if it dod however...how is it anything but market value for a 50 pt forward?
The Flames are sitting with the lowest payroll in the league right now...so it makes no difference what he is making for the next 3 years and wont matter even at the end of it. This has been explained repeatedly to you.
Jeezuz you have this trolling crap down to an art.

Maybe I am missing something in BigTuna's posting history, but I think you guys are taking BigTuna's post way out of context. He responded to the question of why Toronto didn't re-sign Raymond. Personally I don't think it is because Raymond wanted $3M for 3 years but because the Leafs needed to make changes. Regardless, what's wrong with saying $3M for 3 years is not a great deal? It may be fair value but it's hardly a great deal.
Like I said before, Raymond is a good player to have on a nonplayoff team as he provides speed and skill but he doesn't make the team harder to play against.

Getting Komorov at 1 million was never possible.

Fine. He would have obviously gotten 7 million + per as a UFA.
\But of course on this site Dion barely cracks the top 100 NHL D-Man list

Raymond was attainable for a million, so it was a nice deal. You either sign Komorov for 2.95 million or you don't. I also think it's much tougher to find a legit pest like Komorov than a player like Raymond.

Raymond is a western Canadian guy who values playing close to home. Its no secret he's been looking to play for the Flames for a while. Should have happened last year but we'll probably never know why. I'd suspect that the leafs probably wanted him back based on his season last year and why wouldn't they? He chose to be here as a UFA.
He want's to be here, is a solid two way contributor and even if he is making a bit more then he should what does it matter for the flames? Overpaying by 500k isn't going to kill them anymore then it does by overpaying wideman.

I see Raymond as a replacement for a guy like Stempniak.
Younger, faster, better 2 way player. Its an upgrade.
