That's the ultimate fan argumentative point, an ubquantifiable characteristic applied to players who are likeable and/or have been put in a traditional leadership role.

That doesn't mean it's not there. Not everything is based in stats, especially in a team game. When breeding young players it's important to have people around to guide them and remind them it's not junior, that they can't slack off in the gym, that there is no excuse for not backchecking, etc... Like it or not, teammates will have an affect on each other, good or bad. Just because its "unquantifiable" doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Getting picked high and making your NHL team is not the end-game, as the Oilers seem to believe. Giordano is the perfect embodiment of perseverence. Undrafted, undervalued at a young age by his team, leaves to a different league where most become obsolete, returns and rounds out into a top defender all pure hard workk and will to succeed. Nothing handed to him once in his whole career.
We need Mark Giordano. Much more than we need a 7th overall pick, or a 1st (this one at least).

Link?
I saw "swapping picks" which could mean a lot of things. That as you've presented it makes no sense.

No it wasn't. It was swapping picks. Did not mention round. Ward, with that contract, has negative value.

Rumour? More like baseless paranoid speculation.

Can we have ONE thread where we don't talk about trading Gio?

This, the rumoured deal never mentioned any specific picks.

Just realized if Ottawa hadn't traded their pick then six Canadian teams would've been picking in the top 10. Lol.

Treliving confirms on the Fan 960 the Flames did try hard to get back early into the first round but it was difficult to do especially without another 1st.

I heard a rumor from Boomer's second cousin, second removed from Walker's pet dog that the flames would trade their two 2nd rounders for a 1st in next years draft.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Flames made a trade offer for Cam Ward in exchange for Carolina's 7th pick. Obvious salary dump opportunity. Hurricanes declined.

These are exactly the type of moves I want to see Treliving try and make.
Sure, he was unsuccessful, but it tells me he has a good grasp of player value and what we need going forward.

I'm certainly glad that they tried to make one of these deals and it looks like the Coyotes would have done it had Ribero waived his NTC.

I am now sad Riberio wouldn't waive. Makes no sense as Flames should have just called and said you are getting bought out either way.
Is there a difference between a compliance and regular buyout for the player?

I don't know the fine details but maybe a team can't advertise that intention to the player until after the deal is consummated? Maybe the Flames would have actually wanted to have him on the roster? No way to know really.

Maybe Ribiero, at the time, didn't believe the Coyotes would actually buy him out

That deal would have been huge for the flames. They wouldn't have even needed to buy out Ward.
