You get to converse, but can you know that the other isn't lying to you?

I would if I was at an All Star game.

I agree but we need to get enough people on board to make a switch actually work. I'll switch if enough people agree to
I'm good with voting out Blaster right now though. I believe you're a player, but your knowledge of how this all works is intimidating to a noob and you could just be trying to play us all
My votes definitely not set in stone

If I am a player and I know what I am doing, wouldn't that be an asset rather than a detriment? Why not let the management off me instead of doing the job for them and letting them double up.

Could he be lying? Sure.
Is he? I doubt it.

I'm Shea Weber.
This is a great strategy, Management would presumably need to lie and pretend to be players. Meaning that they risk the chance of being called out on a duplicate identity if they declare early. So they'll need to wait and see what they declare. Keep in mind, there's also the possibility that some people are players currently working for management.
Of course, after reading this, management could declare identities early, meaning more chance of catching them in a lie. Can anyone think of a downside to us revealing our identities?
Even though I'm currently voting for him, I have to strongly doubt blaster86 is management, based on recent posts. Strongly contemplating changing my vote.

My vote right now is quite random and therefore open to change if a solid option comes along.
I think the first vote is going to be a shot in the dark either way though.
We could vote for something that tells up something to gain information going forward like voting for Blaster knowing that he is aligned with Flameswin so if it turns out that he is a player we will know that Flameswin is also a player and therefore to be trusted. Conversely if he is mafia we strike a quick blow and kill off two mafia guys at the start.
The other option is to vote someone off at random in which case I have no idea where to start. Is someone who isn't posting much management laying low or just a player who is listening and waiting to form an opinion of others before saying too much.
My gut says that Blaster and Flameswin are players with the ability to communicate outside of this thread. If they were management they could already communicate without a special ability. I know they could be lying about having the ability and if so, congratulations, that is quite an elaborate lie.

I come back to my idea of all the players voting for someone not contributing.

I have never played Mafia before, but if this is what day one is like when there is little to no information...I can't imagine the theories and paranoia running rampant will be like in a few (game) days!

I pledge that I will change my vote to any of the low-contributing members, if we can get a quorum of 13 people who vote or pledge similarly.

We don't need 13, we just need a majority by Sunday night.

I George Parros will do the same if 13 people come on board.
Do we need 13 or just a majority?

Well we need 13 to hammer at any time, or 1/3 of votes for deadline lynch by Sunday night. So 1/3 of 25 would mean 9.
With the hammer, the moment that 13th vote for a player is cast, then the player is dead, the day is over, nighttime is on, and we can't post again until the next morning.
That's my understanding, anyway.

So what's the plan then? We need to suspend a little of the trust issues for this first vote.
Let's stop flip flopping and come up with something and stick with it.

So we're outing our player names then? Because if so, Oilfan#81 is going to be very jealous!

The faster we all reveal our identities, the more it forces management to scramble and lie so as to not stand out.

Me as well. I've already let my identity slip.
