Wow.... Ok, let me clear this up for some who can't understand things; Hartley is doing great with the team he was given but I don't think that's good enough to warrant being nominated for coach of the year. It's like saying we deserve an award for having the most wins with the lowest cap hit. In the end, only results matter. I know this is the first year of a rebuild and I'm happy they're doing it but really, coach of the year??? We're you guys saying he was a. Osch of the year when we couldn't score goals or are you only using the last 4 games as what matters.
I used examples of how bad this team is to show that even though they're playing well now, they played bad before. Maybe he deserves coach of the week or month but not year.

I think people are having a hard time with his rebuild and always think we should be in the running to win something. If you think I'm too negative that's fine, but then it's fine for me to think that some of you guys need to stop drinking the kool aid. Remeber, this is the first year of a rebuild, don't have such high expectations...

I have to agree with this and use Saturdays game against the Wild as an example. Matt Cooke took a hit from (I believe) Bouma at centre ice, which he didn't like, and then proceeded to board Brodie on his next play, the first person to jump on Cooke after the boarding was Butler. Surprised me but I think the last problem we have with Butler is his attitude towards this team.

I agree coach of the year is a stretch... but man the negative, anti-staff and player BS that runs rampant here... considering they are playing at or above their level and finding ways to compete should be cause for congratulations! Maybe some people want to try to swing the pendulum the other way for a change, it gets kind of depressing to see the negativity in here, and for those of us who seem to realize what a rebuild entails... this is not even close to the worst it is likely to get. You might want to plan a vacation next year.

Just saying.
All Henry Fool is saying here is that it is the first year of a rebuild; there will be a few highs and a lot of lows (hopefully not too many Lowes ). Proclaiming Hartley as a Jack Adams candidate during the highs is probably an overreaction, as is wanting his head during the lows. It seems like most here are happy, to varying degrees, with the job Bob Hartley has done with the compete level. Especially with guys like Backlund, Bouma, Brodie, Giordano, Russell etc. I am generally of the same opinion, but coach of the year? Kinda hard to gauge for a bottom-five team.

First off, I think just about everyone is agreement that Hartley has done well with what he's had to work with. One or two posters may have gotten carried away with the 'coach of the year' comments, but they are at least looking at the big picture whereas you don't seem to get it.

It's not just been these last 5 games (7 games to be precise as they've been playing great hockey). It's the fact we've remained competitive and kept almost every game within reach all year. Not to mention we've been seeing the most exciting hockey the flames have ever played (minus the slump we had which every team goes through in a season). That is exactly what Hartley said he was going to give us and he delivered.

If you can't see that then you're obviously only looking at the standings and not watching this team give it their all every game. They may have no hope of making the playoffs, but I'm happy with the progression that's been made and they've represented the Flaming C with pride. If Dallas Eakins could get his team to play like that then the Oiler's may not of been bottom feeders once again.

Almost except for that horrible stretch where they couldn't score a goal to save their lives and people were complaining about everything. Maybe you're forgetting that. I remember predicting a score of 6-1 and a poster saying "I think you're giving too much credit to our offense" and people agreeing with it.

The team is doing about as well (if not better than most everyone including me expected). I like that the Flames effort is there and I acknowledge it as often as possible, I just had to point out that making a team work hard and ending up with losses isn't enough to warrant a nomination for coach of the year. It's also one of the reason I don't want Glencross back on the team, this team is tough to play against and if he's going to show up and float, even if he scores a goal here or there, it would be counter productive.

Hartley has done wonders with Backlund, Bouma, Brodie and even guys like Stajan are stepping in and doing their part. Gio is having a great year too but I still don't feel anyone on the team or the team itself deserves any kind of award for it.

That doesn't change the fact that I love watching games when I can, I love this team and I'm always going to be a fan. I don't agree with some of you, doesn't make either of us right, just different.

He's more lanky than huge. He is very much built like McLovin.
