Honestly if the Flames could get a good young centre or defenseman in exchange for Sven, I'd do it. I just can't see this guy playing a full season injury free. He's like a young Hemsky, great talent, no fear, and brittle.
I just can't believe the people that are writing off Baertschi already - take a ****ing pill!
He is 20. He finished last season with 9 points in 7 games. He is not going to step into the NHL and be Sidney Crosby.
Let him grow for christsakes.
Giving up on kids too early will get you absolutely nothing in return.

Except that they get the satisfaction of being a debbie downer. If he busts they can say "ha, I told you so" and if he doesn't they can say "oh good, I am glad that worked out". Best of both worlds.
Baertschi's main issue is physicality. Whether it's that he needs to bulk up some more or refine his game in a way that he can be effective despite being less physical. But it seems like the physical adversity at the top level of competition is taking him off his game more often than not.
But part of it is being young, and still being in an adjustment period from his juniors days. But I agree that no one should be talking about any trades. You have to be kidding if you're even entertaining the idea at this point. When we're talking about a guy who's already shown an ability to put together an impressive point streak in the league at the age of 19?... smh.
If he remains healthy, I don't see Sven being any worse than Jiri Hudler. If that's the case, then he will still be a very useful player even if he isn't a star like we're hoping.

Agreed.
Did you here his interview on the FAN yesterday where he talked about exactly that?
He is fully aware of that issue and he worked on his strength over the summer for that reason. He has also been working on getting better at winning battles without taking as much abuse (see Gaudreau). It is exactly what he needs to work on.
Throwing him out with the bath water is just so ridiculous. I blame the instant gratification generation.
