YES! Exactly! I'm not buying an android phone, because an android phone is not an iphone. I can't put it any simpler than that. Once everyone realizes there is nothing wrong with that, we can all relax and go back to debating playstation vs n64.
Why is everyone so concerned about the best deal I get for my money?

Yes exactly, do I pay a premium to get an Apple product? Yes I know I do. But I also get the tangible benefit that it works well with my 4 apple TV's with AirPlay, my songs are on iTunes and synced on four devices in total with my wife. I have apps that work well with streaming music and video through my house.
Could I switch over to android and find devices and apps to do all of these, of course I could, but it's not worth the hassle to me.

I'm concerned about the direction Apple is going because 1) I own AAPL and; 2) I don't want one OS completely dominating. Imo, by design or not, Apple is moving in the wrong direction.

Same. 14 Apple devices all working seamlessly together - love it.
And before someone starts with the sheep and fanboi comments.....
- when I bought my iPods there was no credible alternative, there was no alternative music store, they were the best hands down
- all my 8000 songs loaded into iTunes? Hell yeah!
- Airport express x 3? My music collection throughout my house? Hell yeah!
- switching to Mac was my best computing choice, no regrets at any cost
- iPhone 4? Best phone on the market at the time
- iPad 2's? Only credible tablets on the market at the time
- Apple TV an awesome product at the time and still
- iPhone 4s? Still a top phone a the time and fit my ecosystem (and it was a gift )
I understand that today there might be better options now in each of these categories (debatable) and that one might be able to cobble together a complete infrastructure like this and it would cost less. That's pretty much irrelevant to me and I have no regrets.
Will I buy a 5S? No, because I'm still paying off my 4S and it works just fine. And I get major new features every year to keep it fresh. Pretty much guaranteed I will buy a 6 sight unseen though and be thoroughly happy. I don't worry about the price because the alternative of tearing down my ecosystem, buying new apps, etc. is astronomical. Besides, I post on CP so I can afford it

I don't think everyone is concerned about what's best for you personally, this thread isn't the Sept 10th Apple Event for sun. I know I'm being a bit facetious by saying that, but its' true. We're speaking in general terms. That's great that The iPhone and the corresponding products work great for you, that's awesome but we're allowed to compare it to other products no?
The problems in this thread start when you get one or two guys getting way too defensive about Apple products. I'll admit when I respond the way I do I'm only adding to the problem, so I'll definitely stop but when you take away the overly sensitive defensive posts the thread is just fine. SuperMatt, a guy who said he owned the iPhone and will (?) be buying the new one, can't even criticize the camera claims without a dramatic post replying to him.
edslunch mentioned above that he is totally engrossed in the Apple ecosystem because it totally works for him and I totally understand that. Personally I like to be more fluid in what I can consider buying and that works for me.

Until the competitors release an alternative forged from glass and metal, I will prefer the form, styling, and feel of an iphone

Sounds like production problems are coming up. Umm has any potential 5S owners have any concerns if the fingerprint thing screws up? Getting locked out of your phone would be crazy.
Jefferies’s Peter Misek reiterates his Hold rating on Apple, while cutting his price target to $425 from $450, suggesting that Apple has been having production problems with the fingerprint sensor built into the iPhone 5S:
Our checks indicate that suppliers have started to receive build plan cuts. We think poor fingerprint sensor yields are the cause. The 5s has few changes vs. the 5 and is using the same process node for the A7 app processor. Our checks indicate that the fingerprint sensor yields have been terrible and are the likely culprit for the H2 build plan cuts. We slightly raise our CQ3 EPS estimate from $7.58 to $8.14 (St $7.65) due to higher total shipments based on our sell-through checks (32M vs. 30M prior; St 31M). But our CQ4 iPhone revenue estimate remains ~20% below St.

You'll still be able to enter a password or passcode if the fingerprint reader fails.

Agreed. The thing is I don't think anyone is criticizing anyone else's phone purchase in this thread. Not that I can see anyway. Thread's been generally good that way. Relatively minimal "ur a fanboi stupid shut up" accusations lol.

Upgraded to IOS 7. It's pretty frickin awesome. Lots of cool features, and they definitely took after Android on a few (i.e. closing apps, the double tap brings up the apps like it is on an Android, and you swipe them closed)
I like it. And I hate Apple. Only have it because of work.

An image of Bell's pricing released this afternoon.
Just a reminder that any new contract is subject to the new plans.

Just landed a deal with Rogers today. $60 for unlimited talk/text/picture messaging/CID/VM in North America, and 3GB LTE data with the 32GB iPhone 5 for $150 on a 2 year deal. I think I did well. It would've been a $50 plan but I opted for 3GB instead of 1GB in case of overages. The 5S wasn't worth the markup on $70+ plans for me to dive into for 2 years.

It's fantastic... I've been using it for a few weeks now and getting to swipe videos and pages over to the main screen is great. Bad thing is limited app support since it's really a new platform.

I think I want the 5S. My 3GS has been chugging along for over 4 yrs now. I think it's time for an upgrade, but I can't get the subsidized price on my sweet 6GB/$57 a month plan unless I scrap it and go on a new contract. But I was thinking.....I'm gonna be down in the states in a couple weeks and thought about buying an unlocked one down there outright. Over $600 is a lot to cough up for a phone up front but I feel as though I got my moneys worth out of the 3gs and I could then continue the current plan I'm on. Anyone know if there'd be any problems using a US bought phone on Rogers network?

Why would you buy it down there? Why not buy it at the Apple store here?
The only consideration (and those who know more about this please chime in) is the LTE frequencies. I know my 5 which was bought on launch day doesn't have as many LTE frequencies as if I had bought a 5 last week. So you run the risk of having a phone that has all the AT&T and T-Mobile LTE frequencies, but not Rogers/ Bell ones.
When I had a data roaming plan my phone would only show 4G, not LTE when in the States. While 4G was fine when roaming with a tiny data plan, I really like having LTE here.

Because I'm cheap and I'll be there anyway.
I read somewhere a 16GB will be selling for $639.99 US at Walmart. $719 here. So roughly a $50-$60 difference depending on dollar. However if there's a possibility of frequency issues, which is what I was wondering about, I'll just get one here.
