aw... sucks to feel personally criticized by people who don't you know, doesn't it? How appropriate...

It is very possible that he had no idea what he was giving up until he did give it up. I am sure the realization that he would be a 9-5 worker the rest of his life hit pretty hard. Maybe that is the wake up he needed.
Hopefully it works out for him.
I believe in second chances, and try not to rejoice in someone else's misfortune (where self-caused or not).

Giving up and suffering clinical depression (my guess) are different subjects. I wish him luck.

I hate to rush to any judgements because for all we know Howse may have battled with some depression or something along those lines which made him question all aspects of his life.
I was disappointed he didn't seem to ever get off the ground as a prospect, but I'm not about to hold ill will towards a person who is trying to get his life back on track.

I'm throwing out hypothetical here... But what if he turned it around, hit some of his initial potential and was on the brink of a career destined for the NHL? I understand he was signed as a free agent, but would the Flames not hold any sort of rights to him or be compensated in anyway?

No when they terminated his contract, he became an UFA.

likely realized how ####ty the real world can be and that playing a kids game for a living is not such a tough life
Funny how some fans are more passionate for a guy like this to get a second chance when there are tons of guys busting their asses for a shot who wouldn't dream of quitting that will never be mentioned. I wish no ill will nor will I be pulling for the guy, he is LUCKY to get another shot

For some reason, my post in the Draft Contest thread. I'm not sure what made it worthy of being "terrible", but I cried a little when I saw it.
"Oh look, my post got thanked...Wait a minute."

This could have gone either way. On a different day, there's have been 40 thanks on the McDicks post. The internet is about as predictable as a woman's mood.

I totally agree, on top of all that earning more cash on an entry level contract as a teenager than most doctors who spent years for their degrees. But as a professional who freshly graduated a little over a year ago, I learned that adjusting to the real world is tough primarily because a lot of young adults today have a highly idealized version of what the real world is like.
Not to overstretch my speculation but he likely went through what almost every young adult transitioning into the professional world went through. A tough realization that unless we have years of work experience and/or a ton of luck, a lot of doors are closed and we need to slog through a few years mediocre positions to get to where we thought graduating would bring us to.
I think this is a very normal process, sure it's immature thinking but he's only 22 so it's to be expected. I'd cut him a bit of slack.
