another one who pulls off accents perfectly is Damian Lewis (Major Winters from Band of Brothers). in the show he has no accent whatsoever, but in the DVD special features his accent is very thick. kind of funny that one of the greatest American WWII heroes is portrayed by a Brit

I was floored when I found out Damien Lewis was British. He has one of the more refined upper crust British accents I've ever heard, and he played Winters with an American accent so well. Similar to Hugh Laurie in House.

I was shocked as well.
And I've heard interviews where Laurie says sometimes he finds an american accent just brutal to say. Laurie is a very interesting individual.

so now is it that they have adopt a new accent, or try to drop the existing one they have? Brits always say that Americans are the ones with the accents, yet when they sing they sound just like us. and while there are plenty of British actors who have no problem sounding american, have you ever heard any US actors able to pull of a convincing English accent?

Well, I probably can't tell the difference. If I lived in Britain for a while I may be able to tell, but as an outsider I'm not sure if I could. If I hear Aussie, Kiwi and british accents side by side I can pick them out, but if some one is just speaking with me I can't (unless they use some sort of distinctive slang or words). I know they are very different but without the comparison I suck identifying them.

A fight filled episode this past weekend . . . . and now you know what Starbuck did to Lee Adama. Skank!!!
This preview from TV Guide, lower down the page, spells out the next episode, an "algae planet" that holds the key to finding Earth . . . . . lot of depth in the story so you might not want to read it ahead of the episode. Its the mid-season cliffhanger.

I just started watching the show over the last month or so and its awesome. I am finally caught up... looking forward to watching this weekends episode.
On a semi-related note.. Admiral Adama makes a cameo in the latest snoop Dogg video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY7iLyyrq70
Can't for the life of me figure out what he is doing, and the video is not good enough to watch a second time to figure it out.

I don't think this last episode was great, but it was one that had to happen from a character development standpoint.
It explains why Lee became the fat guy, and the guilt that old man Adama was feeling.
I wasn't all of that Anamored with StarBucks character, she's either spoiled or stupid and I can't decide which one.
I don know that the old man missed a chance to score political points twice in that episode. Once when Roslin was hitting on him in the field, and when she tried to give him boxing advice and he bluntly refused it.
Overall, a pretty dull episode that underlines why people in the Military shouldn't dip thier pen in the regimental ink.
The fights didn't blow off steam, they created more.

In season one, we found out she was abused by her mother as a kid . . . .
I find her fairly irritating most of the time but the back-story established in that first season, plus the guilt she carries for the death of Zac Adama, does, I think, realistically creates a tortured soul pushing others away.
Interestingly, you might remember the whale of a fight she and SIX had on Caprica at the end of Season One . . . . . both actresses, in real life, had fight training prior to the episode and made it deliberately contrasting, Kara in more straight-forward boxing and SIX more in the martial arts area.

I'm all caught up now, and wow I love this show. Thought the episode last night (when I watched it) was pretty decent, gave some good back story which we needed to find out about, poor Adama.
Was that the first episode without without 6of12 ( ) and Baltar?

Baltar had a (very brief) cameo in one of the New Caprica flashback sequences. Six was completely MIA though. In fact, that was my biggest complaint about the episode: the boxing sequences and New Caprica flashbacks provided plenty of character development, but this episode was completely devoid of any kind of story development. What they should have done was have a concurrent plot with Baltar/Six/Xena that further examined the Cylon side of things and advanced the plot forward.
Pretty weak episode overall, IMO.

Don't get me wrong, they did a great backstory retelling and made her to me a completely unsympathetic character. There was no real excuse for her when she was getting off on being an avenging angel and shooting people out of the launch tubes. She has no sense of justice, she has a sense of revenge, and she's dangerously self destructive in that she wants to take people with her when she goes. The actress to me does a great job, but the character to me isn't as much flawed as she's a 1 dimension sink point of angst and stupidity.
I mean the Lee Adama is flawed and conflicted in his own sense but at least he puts his sense of duty above everything else, and because of that he's a good soldier and maybe a bad human being.
Tigh is neither a good soldier or a good human being, but he's certainly addicted to excess.
Admiral Adama to me is to main character in this play as he's being forced to go from being an outright black is black white is white rigid soldier to someone who has to go to shades of gray to preserve his race. His journey is the most interesting.
But this show is focusing too much on the whole everyone is guilty of some crime thing, and get on with focusing on the task at hand and tahts finding earth and staying one step ahead of the (surprise surprise) clearly conficted Cylons.
I remember reading an interview about the fight and the fact that a lot of the blows landed, which is interesting.

What are you talking about Tigh isnt a good soldier or a good human being.
He single handedly lead the resistance and then for the good of mankind KILLED his OWN wife cause she was a traitorous beeatch.
Tight is a giant among men.

He's also the same soldier who showed up drunk on duty, let his wife cloud his judgement, had an emotional meltdown on duty. And being a good resistance leader dosen't make you a good soldier at all, it might make you a good killer, but not a soldier.
And he's a pretty lousy human being as well.

He's proven to be one of those cliches who is good in war and lost in peace . . . .

You're going to love the next episode then as per the preview link I posted earlier today.
I actually liked the weekend episode . . . didn't love it but didn't hate it either.
A funny avatar on the big fight at the link below from the Sci-Fi board:

I didn't like the episode until the end; I found it kind of slow and a bit pointless in the beginning. But when they started showing the backstory on Apollo/Starbuck then I started enjoying it. I hated the Starbuck character to begin with and this just futher solidified it. Well, I suppose that's not the best way of putting it; if I knew Starbuck in real life, I would hate her. I think she keeps the show interesting, if that makes sense.
I'm really looking forward to next weeks episode based on Cowperson's link.

Same here.
I think it's one of those episodes that has to be done. It gave a good backstory and another side of big Adama. It's one of those smaller episodes that is nice to watch when nothing too major happens.

While I find Tigh to be one of the more interesting characters on the show, he's very much a flawed individual (much like Baltar). While he may have led the resistance, he lost his soul in doing so when he ordered suicide bombings of civilian targets. Surely Adama would never have gone along with such extreme measures if he had been around.
I also find it amusing that you view Tigh as a hero. Somehow I doubt you see the men who authorize and carry out suicide bombers in Iraq or Israel in the same light as you view Tigh. Just goes to show that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

Looks like that preview I posted above was a week premature . . . . its for the following week.
Preview for this coming Saturday, according to the Sci Fi site is:
"Galactica's pilots must lead the starving fleet through a dangerous nebula to a new food source."
