I didn't realize Seguin was so young. At 21 to already have his stats at the NHL level, you should be willing to accept a little immaturity.
Eriksson was a fan favorite here in Dallas, but when a first line center becomes available like this, you make that leap and sort out the warts down the road.
Quote:
Eriksson is a gem. He annually tops the list of most-underrated players in the NHL and, just two weeks short of his 28th birthday, he will give the Bruins reliability, consistency and stability – all the things they want in a player and Seguin couldn’t deliver. He is also ultradurable, having missed just three games over the past five seasons.
Before his scoring numbers fell off this year, Eriksson had been averaging close to a point per game from 2009-12, and had four consecutive years of scoring 26 goals or more. Head coach Claude Julien is going to love him.
But in exchange for Eriksson, the Bruins took a calculated risk in trading away Seguin, a player with a far-greater upside who may perhaps mature into a dominant centre under the new Dallas regime headed by general manager Jim Nill and head coach Lindy Ruff.

Tyler Seguin’s mom says Boston media ‘making up stories’ after Dallas trade
Quote:
Not long after Tyler Seguin was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Dallas Stars in Thursday's blockbuster, seven-player deal, stories of his hard-partying ways -- presumably withheld until now -- hit the Boston media.
Joe Haggery of CSNNE reported that Seguin had been confronted by members of the Bruins' organization after showing up to Round 1 playoff games in Toronto wearing the same outfit he wore on the previous day.
The Boston Herald reported that the Bruins were so frustrated with Seguin that they ordered him to stay in a hotel in the playoffs and posted a guard outside his room to keep him in there.
On Friday, with the city of Boston burying Seguin, someone finally rose to his defense: His mother.
“That’s not true,” Jackie Seguin told the Toronto Star, in response to the report about Seguin's guarded hotel room. She went on:
"I know that for a fact. The whole team lived in the hotel. That’s crap. Oh, my God. That’s stupid stuff. That’s very unfair to say that. He’s a professional. That makes me very angry.”
[...] “You know what is happening?” Seguin’s mom said. “Boston is now trying to justify why they’re getting rid of Tyler. Obviously, they don’t want a fan backlash against (general manager Peter) Chiarelli,” she said. “Now they’re making up stories.”

I think all of this is way over blown. Charelli said so in an interview that the hard partying is overblown and he didnt see anything out of Seguin that he wouldn't see in any other 21 year old. Much less a 21 year old Stanley Cup champion making millions. The guy will grow and mature and be a great player in this league. The deal made sense for both sides. The bruins had one too many top-2 centers and traded the one most expendable to them at this time. They are in win now mode and Seguin won't enter his prime for another 2-4 years. Ericsson is a hell of a player and will help the Bruins. Seguin can grow along side Benn and Dallas gets a great defensive center in Peverly, while Boston opens cap space to get Iginla short term. Good hockey trade.

Yeah, just like Couture got "hacked" when he accidentally tweeted a link to a porn site he was visiting.

I think this is the first case I've seen where an athlete was probably legitimately hacked. I doubt he went on to twitter to announce he was gay, and if he was gay I'm sure he wouldn't announce it in such a vulgar fashion.

I think this has to be a case of a friend posting this on Seguin's phone as a joke. Who bungles the quote to turn it into a coming out tweet?

Isn't it required now for guys who are under 25 out at the bar to post a "coming out" message on Facebook or Twitter if a friend leaves his phone unlocked and unguarded?

Dallas Stars statement on Tyler Seguin:
Quote:
“In no way, shape or form does the Dallas Stars organization condone or agree with the message that was sent out through Tyler Seguin’s Twitter feed last night. We’ve addressed the issue directly with Tyler and we’ll continue to work on educating our players regarding the importance of their conduct on all forms of social media.”

I think it also suggests he needs a better group of friends, or at least one who should think more about what kind of crap hits the fan with a "joke" like this. I'd be pretty mad if someone did this to me and the reaction it generated was so front and center in the media. Thankfully I'm a nobody

Seguin: My Twitter account was 'taken over'
I still find it hard to believe that.
Quote:
“Jim and I talked about it. We thought it was the right decision to shut down my Twitter account. It was very unfortunate with the time period of when it was all happening,” said Seguin. “My twitter was, in fact, taken over along with a couple of other things that are with my name. It definitely didn’t feel good that my name was out there with saying negative things. I definitely want to apologize to anybody who was hurt by what I said, and I’m happy to be moving on.”
|
Quote:
“I don’t believe it was one of my friends that used it. I do think somebody got a hold of it. I’m not sure how,” said Seguin. “Both times when it happened, my phone was in my pocket and I was nowhere out in public. But it’s behind me, and I’m more than happy to be starting with a new organization and trying to earn the respect of everybody.”

Why on earth would a 21 year old heterosexual male athlete label himself a homosexual while simultaneously "insulting" his new city on twitter? Of course it was someone else.
He was hacked, if by "hacked", he means he left his phone on the table while taking a leak.

Or his password is "12345" and he uses it for all his accounts, a more likely scenario.
