I have seen both. Monahan himself, said he tries to model his game after Jordan Staal.

I totally heard Cherry's voice in my head when I read that to myself.

Has Don ever given a European player props?

Sure, if they played for Toronto or Ottawa.

Also Boston.
As long as a European plays for one of his teams, they become Canadian in his eye.

Based on what I've read about him, and the interviews I have seen and heard - Monahan might be my FFF (Future Favorite Flame)...

Maybe it's my inner Don Cherry coming out, but I'm stoked Monahan is Canadian. Even if Lindholm averages a few more pts/season, I'll take the Canadian. Nothing against Swedes either - I like them too.

Nice, little video of the Monahans. It's great hearing that he visited here and said it felt like home. Also, it seemed like his dad was saying that Sean was hoping to be drafted by the Flames, which is also great. Definitely excited about this pick.

2) a dynamite hockey player and SSM's Darnell Nurse. And Buffalo taking Rasmus Ristolainen over Bo Horvat of the London Knights. How about Dallas taking Valeri Nichushkin over Max Domi. Florida taking Aleksander Barkov over Drouin. Didn't they see the Stanley Cup Finals?
15 Canadians on Boston and 13 on Chicago. Bickell from Orono ties the game late and Bolland of Mimico scores the winner. Only European who was around was Rask. 28 Canadians in the finals. Please note where these teams always end up in the standings. Guaranteed to stay there. Mark it on the wall.

Honestly I thought this was a parody account. What a clown.

Yeah, I think the Jordan Staal comparison is likely off. In his draft year, J. Staal was a point/game player, and only the fourth-highest scorer on his team. Monohan was THE entire offence for the 67's last season, and without a lick of any offensive support was still well over a point/game.

Eric Staal in 2002-03 with the Peterborough Petes (32-22-11-3 record)
66 GP, 39 G, 59 A, 98 PTS (1.48 P/G)
Sean Monahan in 2012-13 with the Ottawa 67's (16-46-6 record)
58 GP, 31 G, 47 A, 78 PTS (1.34 P/G)
Jordan Staal in 2005-06 with the Peterborough Petes (47-16-5 record)
68 GP, 28 G, 40 A, 68 PTS (1.00 P/G)
It should be noted that Jordan Staal was nearly a year younger than Eric Staal and Sean Monahan in their draft years, but then again Monahan did score at a 1.25 P/G rate in 2011-12. I wonder how Monahan would have done last season with a decent team...

For those interested here is a cool scouting video I found on Sean Monahan. I hate the Oilers but they do a fantastic job and showcasing all draft players in there draft year.

That Oilers video is nice but did they have to freeze the video and circle Monahan every time he gets out of the camera shot?
