Is there a cutoff/deadline he has to meet in order to retire before the season starts?
If Kipper is coming back to live in Calgary, I suspect the Flames would prefer to wait until then in order to make an official announcement (i.e. at a press conference), to give #34 a proper sendoff.

I'm the opposite -- I think if Kipper was coming back, he would have decided by now and that something would have been announced. He's no spring chicken anymore -- it's not like he can simply decide last minute that he wants to suit up for another season.

I'd take the word of Kipper over the word of the organisation, seeing as he is the one retiring, but that's just me.

Sorry, I didn't know you spoke to Miikka directly.
This is the definition of Unofficial, from the Calgary sun;
"Reportedly, the Calgary Flames netminder told members of the Finnish national team: “If Calgary has not announced it, you guys can do that.” Consider that message — which was passed on to a Finnish news agency, then noticed by journalist Juha Hiitela, then translated into English, then turned it loose on Twitter — dutifully relayed to the hockey world.
Later Tuesday, a source close to Kiprusoff said the Finn is 100 per cent set on retiring. (The source also conceded that, sigh, there remains the slight possibility of a change of heart.)"

I'm not saying that he isn't going to retire. It's just not official, that's all.

There's a difference between "unofficial" and "rumour".
Unofficial is him retiring.
A rumour is him not retiring.
One has been said by him. Even Feaster, after the report from the source that you deem questionable, essentially said "We knew he'd say that if we pressured him for an answer, it doesn't come as a surprise." And the reporter who translated it into English? Well, he's Finnish, based in Canada, I'd assume he has a good grasp of both languages.
Anyways, my point is that it isn't a rumour, it's just unofficial, and there is a vast difference between the two.

Tell me, at what point is the Finnish Nation team less credible than the Calgary Flames to you? By your logic, if he tells the Calgary Flames he's retiring from hockey and a reporter reports it, it's just a rumour!
Please, explain the difference between these two:
Kipper tells Finnish team he's retiring from hockey - Finnish team reports it to news - News spreads
Kipper tells Flames he's retiring from hockey - Flames team reports it to news - News spreads
Go ahead and tell me what makes one a rumour to you. As I said, Feaster backed up the report, simply hoping he'd take time and change his mind. Why would Feaster address a rumour as fact? You don't hope a 'rumour' changes.

Kipper better not be coming back. He has said in the last 2-3 years he had to change his workout regime quite a bit to be able to play the way he does. I highly doubt that he has been going full throttle on workouts this summer.
I don't expect much from the "2 best goalies not playing in the NHL", but we need to see what we have in them.

I saw Kipper with his family about 3 weeks ago out in okotoks. He's still around. I didn't want to bother him so I didn't talk to him. Maybe the flames keep him on the roster to reach the cap floor or something? I bet he retires though. I hope that he stays as a goalie coach or something

Last time I heard something on the Radio about Kipper, he was back home in Finland.
I would think his stay in Calgary etc was very short term.
I bet he is retired but the paper work is not official. I would also bet he will live full time in Finland.
Kipper being a Coach is not something I would think he would excel at.

The difference between a Finnish newspaper and the Calgary Flames is, he is an employee of the Calgary Flames. Again, where did I say it wasn't true? All I said is that it hasn't been made official by the Calgary Flames. Until then it doesn't mean anything.
How come capgeek didn't remove him from their site yet? How come he hasn't been removed from the Flames lineup on the home page? BECAUSE IT ISN'T OFFICIAL YET.
I know you just want to argue, but pick your battles.

He's retired. The Flames are in denial, hoping he'll change his mind.
Move on, Feaster et al.

Pretty stupid comment given the glut of young goalies the team has acquired specifically to replace Kipper.
The team is moving on. However, until Miikka signs the retirement papers, he is an active goaltender with the Flames and the team has to consider him as such. He is not retired until that point.

He's also an member of the Finnish hockey system and has represented his country multiple times.
Again, it's not a rumour, it's simply a fact that has not been officially announced by the Calgary Flames. A fact. As in, quoted by the player himself as true. Could he change his mind? RUMOUR is: Yeah, he could. He hasn't been quoted as saying he's thought about not retiring, it's simply hearsay from no official source (I.e. not a international hockey organization, nor an official news source). This isn't like a Selanne who has been quoted as being on the fence, this is a player quoted by a reputable source as having decided to retire. Until that players says different, he is RETIRED.
You know why it's not 'official'? Because the Flames haven't asked. Why haven't they asked? Because they know the answer, and don't want to have to announce that answer until the last possible moment.
I might enjoy the argument, but you're relying on semantics and some silly false hope that he's coming back, and you dismiss any information from reputable sources that suggest he's retiring as 'rumour'.

He has a house outside of Okotoks, his son plays minor hockey in Okotoks, and by my observations at said minor hockey his wife is actively involved with many people in the community.
Not to mention a young new baby that had some medical problems.
I think your guesses are baseless.

To add to that, the last report I had heard was that people around him said his family loved the Calgary area and wanted to stay, so he's likely to vacation in Finland in the summers and live in Calgary (Okotoks) during the school year. I haven't heard anything suggesting he would be staying in Finland permanently, but who knows.

You seem confused, is he or isn't he retired? Until he does its hearsay, unofficial, rumours.
I couldn't care less one way or the other if he does, but fact is as of now he ISN'T retired. I don't understand the basis of your argument. Alcohol?
Edit: and to add to that, I'm not relying on semantics, like you suggest, but fact. As of right now he hasn't retired. Later today? Maybe, right now? No
