I'm thinking I'm relieved in a way that the casualties are so low, I know it sounds horrid with 2 people killed and a number wounded, but it doesn't sound like the bomb was anything but an explosive device.

It could have been much worse.

Runners who were still on the 26.2-mile course were being stopped and directed elsewhere, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said.

One of my wife's coworkers was in the race today, he has reported back that he is fine but was supposedly 100m away from the blast. He said his ears were still ringing though.

Don't think it's been confirmed, no need to jump on the knife and I think most people know Arab Muslims are not all like this.

We don't know if this is an islamic thing yet.

I appreciate the sentiment of the post, but you shouldn't have to apologize on behalf of the people who twist your faith.

Yeah because NBC reported it... on twitter.

Or do you only believe news that's posted on the Web?

I tend to go by the integrity of the source not the medium.

They funneled those near the finish down a different street to a meeting place. Those further back on the course were moved by bus.

Why would you need to apologize even if it is Muslims? All but only the most ignorant red necks realize that it is a tiny group of religious zealots that do this crap.

True, I'm willing to discount the NY Post story and not draw any conclusions from it. But at the same time I haven't seen a story about an anti-government redneck in custody, or group claiming responsibility yet. So maybe the same amount of objectivity should be applied and we just wait until some more concrete answers come forward.

Can you please stick to ruining threads in the FOI forum please. No need to branch out to this one as well. You do so well at it over there as it is.

Maybe I don't have to, but usually the silence from the Muslim community is deafening when it comes to these acts. We need to own up to this sort of thing. The more we stay quiet about it, the more likely that other young Muslims think it's OK.

Anyways, hopefully this is all just rumors, but I doubt it.

No matter what we learn about the motives/identities of the perpetrators, there is absolutely no need for you to apologize for anything.

That's true to a sense, and I've said repeatedly that the moderate Muslim community needs to stand up and defend their faith against radicalization.

Where the standing up needs to happen is in the Mosques and universities and schools where these recruiting activities happen.

But as a Arab Muslim, you don't owe any kind of public apology for your faith, you don't need to defend your faith.

Islamists are the ones that need to apologize and find a way to reconcile the fact that they're not Muslims of any type.

I think that I was among the first to speculate about the possible motives of the perpetrators. I certainly didn't mean for it to be taken as anything more than idle speculation.

If that is the case, how can this possibly lend any credibility to their cause whatsoever? It just makes it seem even more imperative we confiscate any weapon more lethal than a Nerf football from them.

Chicago this October will be on alert with close to 50,000 runners which is close to double Boston.
