Watching that Bouwmeester video I am sure he will take a trade to any of the 16 or 17 teams in the playoff hunt. "Of course I want to be in the playoffs, Kind of the top priority for me right now, just help me GTFO, I 'll go where ever."

I'd say thank you for the 1st, then bury Erixon in the WCHL.

Why? Is this a guy you want young players to learn from? I don't get it.

Yes I'd like players to learn from him, he is playing well. If he's bad as you all seem to think, why would detroit want to trade for him.

Just imagine: Flames trade Bouwmeester to the Redwings for their 1st and the curse continues.. Detroit misses the playoffs and Calgary gets another lottery pick!

Why would he stay though? I wouldn't mind keeping J-Bouw around as a guy who can chew up big minutes and allow the Flames to give some of the young defensemen coming up in the next few seasons some sheltered minutes, but you have to consider what he wants too.
Unless the Flames show some miraculous turnaround next season, J-Bouw leaves and probably signs with a near-guaranteed playoff team at a below market rate to get a taste of the playoffs.
If the Flames don't trade him now they'll get another crack next year, but his value probably won't be any higher. He's playing some of the best hockey of his career and if the Flames are willing to eat $1.5-2.0m of his salary next year then having the extra year is actually in our favour.

Darren Dreger of TSN was just on the NHL Network and mentioned, as has Bob McKenzie in the past, the Wings would be very interested in Jay Bouwmeester of the Calgary Flames.
He also mentioned the Flames may want one of Detroit'r young goalies and mentoned the names of Petr Mrazek and Jake Patterson.

That would be awesome. Make it a 2014 pick just to be sure.

Gross
Also no need to add the Pitt 1st we should get both Edmonton assets straight up for Bouw. Pajaarvi is junk

Bouwmeester is having a good year but I'd rather our young players coming up during this phase didn't learn anything from a consistent loser.

Feaster's hands were tied on the Iggy trade, the deal was either what Pitts offered or he walks at the end of the season.
Bouwmeester will net a much better return, especially if the Flames eat a portion of his salary next year. I'm expecting a 1st plus a reasonable prospect.

This makes me curious. You're the 2nd person in as many days I've seen interested in Paajarvi (or else you've mentioned it twice).
Why the interest in Paajarvi? I don't have any interest in him and can't figure out what he brings to the team. What do you see?

Lol was totally bugging. But in terms of Columbus, would Bouwmeester even waive to go there? I think at this point he would only waive for sure playoff teams. It seems Alberta is his home so he would only waive to go to a winner.

Putting bias aside, no way would I want that deal as an Oiler fan. Huge difference between Edmonton 1st and Pittsburgh 1st (20+ spots). Bouwmeester can play a lot of minutes and is a good defenseman, but he is too soft for my liking and not physical in front of the net. I think Bouwmeester will get Calgary a 1st + a really good prospect.

You could try and keep Bou till the draft and target Philly. They are the only team they will be probably picking in the top ten that isn't in a complete rebuild. Maybe Bou and some draft picks are enough to get that pick (obviously it depends on what it is).

His name was mentioned as a rumored third team in one of the rumored scenarios of the Iggy to Boston trade last night. I think it was something along the lines of Paajarvi coming to Calgary, Iggy going to Boston and Lucic going to Edmonton (in addition to the other rumored assets we were supposed to be getting from Boston). There have also been rumors in the past of Bouwmeester wanting to go to Edmonton.
So... he's a young winger with offensive potential and size. He's also someone that is rumored to be available. The real point behind the trade, though, is swapping the first-round picks. Who has a pretty good chance of picking high in the first round? Edmonton. Do they want or have a need for Bouwmeester? Yes. Do they have someone that might be available, and is a legit blue-chip prospect forward? Yes, Paajarvi.
