Iginla will never be traded to do him a favor, he will be traded because of the risk of losing him for nothing. This is probably the first year that the risk of losing him for nothing is a large enough concern that we have no choice but to get something back if he is not signed by the deadline. Nothing will take away what he has done here over his career but no player is more important then the team and its long term plans.

If Iggy holds the team hostage by not waiving at the deadline then walks in the off season, put me in the camp that would be pissed at him.

He's already said he'd waive if asked and wouldn't put the Flames in that position.

Exactly. If Iginla doesn't get moved I'd put the money being on the Flames not moving him. Iginla has seemingly been open to it in the past and I doubt he's closed his mind to it.

He said he'd waive if asked, but if management is dumb and doesn't ask him, I wonder if he'd go to them. I could see us not asking him to move, him not explicitly requesting it, and then just moving on as a UFA.

The one thing that stick out in my mind, is that Iggy has given no direction to Meehan. None at all we are led to believe from Francis' many trade Iggy articles. If this is true still, then I think we, as a fan base, need to prepare for the inevitable. It seems (pure conjecture) that should Iginla wish to stay negotiations would be ongoing as we type and read. Yet they are (apparently) not. By process of elimination one can only assume that Iggy will be talking to management (through Meehan) about trade partners. Honestly, I would be willing to think he's been discussing it with his wife and figuring out how he wants to deal with playing for, oh say... The Bruins. (Team name pulled from my sphincter. Also it's where I would hope to see him if not in the Flaming C).

Not only were these comments made in January, he also says his preference would be to stay here and play on a good team and win here. Calgary is not a good team and we are not winning. I'd be weary about reading too much either way based on that clip.
I personally believe he wants to test the free market and at least see what he's offered. It could possibly be the last contract he ever signs in the NHL, why not explore all your options?

I know Iggy doesn't owe the team this but I think he should let the team know now what his intentions are. He's not an idiot, he knows he's not winning a cup here. If he wants to stay, fine. Let management know and they can re-sign him. If he wants a trade even better. But if he just walks at the end of the season I'll be choked at him. I'll be even more choked at management for not asking him to waive though.

People who think Iginla can be a good value on 2nd line are dreaming. Iginla will be on 1st line as long as he's in Calgary and will remain to be a centerpiece of Flames offense even if he won't be capable of that anymore. No Flames coach ever will have the balls to put Iginla on the 2nd/3rd line, ever.

Problem is that the reason for Iginla's greatness was his ability to physically dominate and his elite shot. Once these crucial aspects of his game detoriate (even) more (especially physical strength) there will be nothing left to make him an effective player. He'll be frustrated (even more) and i highly doubt that will do any good as far as leadership goes either.

The longer we keep Iginla, the longer we are wasting valuable minutes on him so he can play 1st line and powerplay minutes, and the longer Baertschi will be forced to toil in the AHL because we dont have room to give him an opportunity to play good quality minutes.

Baertschi is not in the AHL because Iginla is taking up his minutes. Come on now.

How do you think I feel? Flew to California and watched all 3 games on the road trip. Lower bowl seats (4th row) for my family for the ducks game, sat behind th penalty box for the first kings game, and sat on the glass behind the flames bench for the 2nd LA game..... 3 goals in 3 games. whoopee.

If Iggy does hit FA, I can see the Oilers breaking the bank for him. 5 yrs at 35 million.

Jarome Iginla has earned the right to remain in Calgary for the remainder of the year if he chooses to, though a no trade clause will not hold him immune to criticism if his decision ultimately ######s the eventual overhaul of the club. If he wants a chance at a cup this season, or beyond, he better make it known that he wants to be moved and get on with it. If he does not seek or agree to a trade and then signs elsewhere in the offseason, he will be deservedly roasted for this decision. Its his choice to pursue such a course, but even as an ardent fan of the man, and the player, I personally would view him in a different light if he chooses this course.

The only way there will be bad guys in this situation is if Iginla is not dealt and signs elsewhere. If he values his legacy in Calgary, he is screwing himself into the center of the earth if he doesn't ask for, or agree to, a trade.

Yeah, a pipedream.

Carry on, nothing was seen.
