I think he's an upgrade because he'll put the ball in play (especially on that astroturf). Watching Johnson was infuriating. Sure they lose some power but there's enough power in the lineup.

His defense is better than Kelly Johnson, Johnson has more power. However Johnson strikes out way to much.
Its probably an upgrade

Per MLBTR - interesting that Anthopoulos says that he can promise Villanueva the 30 starts he is seeking... I wonder why things have gone on as long as they have? Maybe AA is really trying to make a splash via free agency, before coming back to Villanueva.
