"I Believe" was probably good for Vancouver after all was said and done, given the leadup to the Games, with Donald Sutherland voiceovers, and the theme being the hope for the "first Canadian gold on home soil" hype. But as a one off...should've went with something different for a non Canadian games.

But, glad its gone...CBC will probably need some help pulling this off, but CTV used more then one broadcaster to do other events that CBC used to do themselves, so as long as the online portion is there for CBC, they should be able to use International feeds...just a matter of what alternate channels they can use that reaches everyone in Canada.

TSN pretty much pulled this off themselves. Were there any CTV people anywhere? Maybe behind the scenes people.

It seemed like a TSN production with Sportsnet people sprinkled in. CBC has enough play-by-play guys and the analysts are pretty much the same. There are a lot of ex-athletes.

The online portion will definitely be better. It was better in Beijing than in London and CTV has 4 more years of technology. Way too many ads and feeds kept dropping at around noon.

Well its definitely a Bell Media (TSN, CTV) production first and foremost.
But Basketball they used the NBC feed. Soccer games not including Canada were international feeds/announcers, as were most of the team sports outside of volleyball. CBC tried to patch together their own commentators as much as they could although I think they had help in 2008 IIRC from TSN.

Jamie Campbell (Cycling), Rob Faulds (rowing), Gerry Dobson(soccer, water polo), Kevin Quinn (Beach and Regular Volleyball) were some of the Sportsnet talent in addition to of course having the the Snet hosts over there.

I can see a Snet (who seemed to relucntant into this consortium, because I think the Bell/CTV/TSN deal big occurred before 2010 but after the deal was made as a consortium for these last 2 Olympics prior to that) teaming with CBC at least for 2014/16.

CBC does need more commentators...outside of hockey, there is nothing else that needs sports commentators with the loss of CBC Sportsweekend this past year...Mark Lee can do other things but Hughson's never done anything sportswise outside of hockey, baseball, and the odd early Raptors game. Then you're left with Cole, who's only done hockey and guys like Dean Brown who did events in Olympics for CBC previously.

I did! So much so that I've been AWOL for the past week after doing so well with the GDTs for the first half. I can't remember everything I've seen or done or people I've met over the past week but some highlights were cheering Tonya Verbeek through her qualifying matches and having her smile and wave after she won her semi; meeting Canada's diving coach at the pub (an hour later he was at the aquatics centre coaching Riley McCormick in final competition); being at Jamaica House to watch Bolt/Blake/Weir sweep the 200m (the bar ran out of rum an hour or two after); and watching the emotional closing ceremony concert in Hyde Park last night which Damon Albarn has said would be Blur's last--I'm surprised this wasn't somehow linked live to the ceremony at the Olympic Stadium somehow for at least a segment.

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself now, it's like I've just finished an amazing holiday planned years in advance and today is the first day back to work.

I read a Guardian article earlier today that said Bowie was asked and declined. The original plans were looking to include Kate Bush, the Stones, Sex Pistols and Bowie. Apparently The Who declined twice as well, but obviously decided to perform. I'm most disappointed that Bowie was there partly because he just should've been, and partly because him and Queen (instead of Jessie J) would've been awesome. Not that I'm a huge fan of him either, but no Sting? Seems like he would be a no-brainer.

Overall it was a weird musical selection, or series of selections. George Michael being there was fine, but I'm not sure his rant against a record company (Freedom) was the best choice of song? Then we get a new song....which was just weird in general. Admittedly I'm not a huge Annie Lennox fan, but I would've hoped for a bigger song than whatever that was. How about Sweet Dreams?

The covers were odd as well. Russell freaking Brand is who they have to cover the Beatles? Astounding. I did like the Pink Floyd cover though. I thought the Spice Girls were surprisingly good and Eric Idle was just awesome.

It was a decent closing ceremonies, but considering all of their firepower I guess I jist expected a lot more.

Well they also had Bond as part of that - though I think most people missed them/didn't know them as well. But to be fair, maybe they're not as hot as they used to be; been more than a decade now.

Russell Brandt covering the Beatles what an insult and the Spice Girls ugh. Though I get the Spice Girls being that the Brits love them.


Where were some of the biggest from England The Stones, Led Zepplin, or even covers of them.
Why didn't Ray Davies from the Kinks sing Lola?
Elton John, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Supertramp.
Probably the most record selling in the 80's was Duran Duran and Tears for Fears.
Oasis was there and they were definately one of the bigger UK acts in the 90's
Since 2000 probably Coldplay, Viva la Vida would have a perfect montage of the athletes. Highs and Lows not to mention a big production and could have had the London Philharmonic orchestra backing them.

And were they crazy to over look the Clash London Calling or Train in Vain.
At least there was an homage to Queen, the Who and Pink Floyd.

This seemed be a production heavily influenced by Simon Fuller who has ties to many of the performers at the closing ceremony.
