I think the innuendo is that Johnson tested positive for drugs and instead of being suspended, he was asked to take a leave which was announced as back problems. Its all speculation but the PGA is unique among other pro sports where essentially everyone plays on the same team ( the PGA team). Golf has a pristine, highbrow image. Drug abuse by players wouldnt be inline with that image and wouldn't be looked upon favourably by sponsors or fans. Its a lot easier to control your actions and message when you have only one team vs a league where you have 30 or so teams.


Im not wanting to perpetuate any rumours. I only stating facts from the past about speculation that has occurred by media such as the Golf Channel. Anything Ive posted you can find speculated on by media, not just bloggers.

Also, any athletic event where you can make millions that steroids or other drugs can help and doesnt have a robust testing program will suffer from drug abuse.

I would bet Ritalin type drugs that improve focus are quite common

The thinking is that theres an incentive for players to keep this hush hush because if it impacts the game as a whole, it impacts each of the players. That would keep them from leaking it to the public. Players might use it to try to play mind games with him on Tour but Im not sure what the code is amongst the players brotherhood for doing such things.
