Figures are from StatsCan here, but the page is dynamic and so that link probably won't work. The percentages/year aren't exactly proper because I didn't use geometric averages, but they should be pretty close.

Frankly, I'm having problems reconciling these figures with the numbers you quoted. I will, however, maintain that Harper is the bigger spender.

I wonder if Justin Trudeau would authorize CBSA to eavesdrop on The conversations of Canadians at airports and border crossings?

Vic Toews, and presumably his boss, apparently will. Unfortunately for them they've failed to eliminate all privacy rights in this country.

So far.

I don't think that would have made the bad joke any better.

^^ That to me is way more worthy of a "Can You Trust Blah Blah Blah" thread than what Bob Rae and Liberals might have done.

The only thing they've made private is the long guns you buy (and potentially re-sell). It's just so contradictory.

We have an interesting entrant into the race...

Quote:
Liberals yearning for the glory days of Trudeaumania as they head into a leadership contest could face a choice between Pierre Trudeau’s eldest son and the mother of his only daughter.

Justin Trudeau is actively reconsidering his initial decision to stay out of the race.

But Deborah Coyne isn’t waiting for the 40-year-old Montreal MP to make up his mind.

She’s taking the plunge Wednesday.

“Our families have always been very separate so I have not been speaking to Justin Trudeau,” Ms. Coyne told The Canadian Press, wishing him “all the best” in whatever he decides to do.

“If the two of us happen to end up in the leadership contest together, I don’t see anything awkward about that. I think that’s wonderful.”

“The more people you have in, bringing different perspectives to bear, different suggestions about where the country should go, different ideas for rebuilding the party, the better.”

In reading the latest polls, it would seem that Justin Trudeau is the Conservative party's wet dream.

Right now, the NDP are at 38%, Cons at 35% and Liberals are wallowing in the low 20s. But add Justin to the mix and the Conservative's number remains about the same, but Justin pulls about 10% of the NDP's support over the Liberals. In this utterly stupid first past the post electoral system we have, that puts the Conservatives back in majority territory again.
