Yes, I was thinking of the Sonics too. I just liked the idea of referencing a hockey team

Like these ones?
Personally, I'd like to see a green-white-black color scheme similar to what the U of North Dakota has.

I like the Fighting Sioux uniforms too, but I really like the yellow mixed in as a complimentary colour. Plus with the history of the Sonics and the likelihood a new NBA team would have the same colour scheme I think it would be good to have the NHL club using the same colours so that they can use those colours around the arena.

I think they should save their money if they expect an NHL team to prosper there. They should conference with their other US owner buddies first.

I think NHL hockey would do great in Seattle. Lots of people I've spoken to buddies here (lower mainland) that have said they'd go to a bunch of games and a couple even want to buy season tickets. I go down to Seattle for a few nfl games a year and would definitely go down for a few NHL games. I'm sure the tickets would be cheaper than Vancouver and another perk is I wouldn't be surrounded by Canuck fans!

I think the electric green the Seahawks and Sounders use would be cool. I don't think there has been a fluorescent jersey in the NHL.

They'd wait at massive border lineups, drive 4 hours (return) into some of the worst traffic nightmares in the US, two or three times a week for expansion team hockey?
I could see doing it a few times a season maybe, but season tickets?
All the power to 'em I guess. Bigger fans than I.

Well they have nexus passes which gets you through the border quick and would either go in with other people on season tickets or sell the tickets to games they don't go to.

Yeah, plus it's not 4 hours, more like 2.5. I just did that drive round-trip over the weekend, and with a 45 minute wait time at the border each way (no nexus card yet) it was still only 3 hours each way

Only 3?
Yeah, I've done the trip lots. That's why I said 4 hours return. And that's just to and from the border.
So from Calgary, the equivalent is driving to Edmonton....no... more like Fort Sask., or St. Albert in very heavy traffic, two or three rainy, slushy nights a week to take full advantage of season tickets.
Not sure how many lower mainlanders would jump all over that.

Yep, it would do well. There are fans in the Seattle area have 10 game pack tickets and drive up to the games here in Vancouver.

Hockey will be great in Seattle.
A while back there was an article in the Seattle Times talking about the viability of Seattle as a hockey hotbed
http://seattletimes.com/html/hockey/...keytown16.html
I like the round glass arena in the concepts. The square one looks boring compared to Century Link and Safeco Field.
As for the people asking about the drive to Vancouver, it's usually 2.5 - 3 hours (I do it all the time). If waiting times are your concern, there are four border crossings in the lower mainland to choose from (Peace Arch, Blaine Truck Crossing, Lynden, & Sumas). Nexus Pass makes the wait pretty short (In June they made some changes to the Nexus pass and made it a bit easier to get). On holidays and peak travel season the wait at the border can be longer but for people coming down to see a game on the regular it wouldn't really be a problem.
Also if people don't want to drive, you can take the train or a Wi-Fi enabled bus from downtown Vancouver to downtown Seattle.

So the NBA is coming back to Seattle.
What NHL franchise moves as well?
Phoenix?

there are Oiler season ticket holders from GP, Fort Mac, Lloydminster that drive in for a large majority of games. Lots of people with money and nothing better to spend it on or work commitments to tie them down. How many ticket holders for Buffalo from TO? Longer drive between Van/Sea but still a border to deal with etc. The bigger question would be if the Thunderbirds have to move, or if the market will bare an NHL/WHL combo like the Canadian majors are running these days. If the Sonics come back too, there is only so much cash to go around.

The question now is the timing.
Everything that I have read about the deal with the city and the county is that the public financing agreement needs to have an NBA team and an NHL team. But I dont know if that means these teams need to be in place before they would start construction.
If so, then somebody needs to buy an NHL team in the next half year. If it is not till it is ready to open (due to there being a lack of a suitable NHL playing arena in the Seattle area) then an ownership group has a couple of years to make a purchase to move the team.
If a Seattle group was to buy the Coyotes, would they stay in Glendale for a couple of seasons and then move? or would they play in a building not suited for NHL hockey?
NBA deal not finalized until the beginning of April. So I would imagine an NHL group would not want to start the buying process until they know for sure that an NBA team is moving.
