So it sounds like neither Dallas nor Toronto have conceded yet, which makes you wonder whether Nash to NYK is nearly a done deal, or whether it was all the New York media circus get whipped into a frenzy prematurely.

^ who knows really. If he doesn't sign with the Raps, Colangelo better reneg on the Fields deal, even if it means public scrutiny. There's no reason to screw the franchise over long term based on principle. The Raps have been screwed several times over, and if they have to, they can't be the nice guy and sign him to the huge contract over principle - he has to understand he was signed on the condition that Nash was coming. I'd much rather go into the season with a shat team like last year, than go in with Fields' contract and no Nash.
I still contend that Nash gave an indication he was interested in the Raps. Colangelo is astute enough that he wouldn't put all his eggs in one basket. If Colangelo has no backup plan, I'm in favor of removing him from the organization. This is BS.

I actually like Landry Fields as a player, really solid all around player. It's too much money for sure, but I would rather they honor the deal because the consequences for renegging on the deal would be devastating. Would be difficult to attract any free agents.

Sounds like Nash is about to become a Laker. At least he's not going in the division and to the Knicks

No shot Nash is going to the Lakers for just picks. Someone has to be coming back. And if the Knicks were offering Shumpert, thats better than anything the Lakers could offer except Bynum or Gasol. And that tweeter looks like an unreliable source.

So at least with BC's move to get Fields, he may have blocked the Knicks from getting Nash. I know a lot of people hate Kobe on this board, but I'm happy for Nash. Lakers are looking damn good now if they just give up picks. Kobe, Bynum and Nash

Trade Nash (who's a free agent by the way) in division, for picks, when there's a better offer out there...I really love that David Stern isn't even trying to hide his rigging the league anymore. Phoenix is a lock to get the number 1 overall pick in the next two years.

Knicks weren't offering Shumpert, that is who the Suns wanted.

It doesn't matter if they were or weren't. For a trade, Phoenix could have gotten more. Why is a free agent being traded in division for draft picks that will be picks 26-30. Unless its 5+ first round picks, this is the dirtiest trade since...what do you know, another Lakers trade, the Gasol one. NBA is a disgrace.

The Suns aren't going to contend for a few years, at least. Nash is only going to play a few years. It's not a dirty trade. The Suns have no leverage, at least this way they see some compensation back

It does matter because the Knicks weren't going to trade Iman Shumpert.
Could the Suns get more? I don't know. Nash is a UFA so he could have signed wherever he wanted to and the Suns could have ended up with nothing. Since it was a "sign and trade" it is not just a matter of the Suns going "we want these guys", the salaries have to work out and that can get pretty messy. 5 draft picks for a guy you could have lost for nothing is not terrible, not that great either.
Wonky NBA trades are not a symptom of David Stern turning the gears behind the scenes but more so that a bunch of NBA GMs are straight up morons (ie. David Khan, Rob Babcock).

"For Suns, getting 2 future first-round + two future second picks made the decision easy to send Nash to the rival Lakers"
That's not bad at all

Whether this is a Stern creation, we shall see in time. If Phoenix wins the lottery in the next few years, its going to look incredibly suspicious. And thats the thing, they are now crappy enough to get in a solid lottery position (anywhere from 1-6 works) that this can happen. I'm never giving David Stern the benefit of the doubt, so lets wait a few drafts and see where this goes.
As for the Raptors, totally blows but they are the Raptors for a reason. And as to 2 first and 2 seconds, it's really 4 second round picks because with Nash the Lakers will be a top 2 team in the West, making those picks likely to be in the low 20's.

Nash is a bum. I'm not overreacting at all. He had the chance to be a legend in Toronto, but instead goes to a stacked team to "win", just the way Bosh and Lebron did. I say it's a tainted win when they do get it. Granted we don't know the inside story of how this transpired, but the fact is the Raptors ponied up the cash, he led them on, and they got played by one of their own. Bum(mer).

For one, I don't view the Lakers as locks for anything. The last time they brought a vet in to win a ring it failed. OKC is still a better team at least for next year, and San Antonio is probably right there with them. And then there's the X-Factor with Nash: How good will he be without that world class training staff in Phoenix who really helped keep his back problems to a minimum. The Lakers have a good staff but nothing like Phoenix's.

Give me a break. How is it tainted? He doesn't owe Toronto anything. The Raptors have been a god awful run franchise for years now and this was not a good team he was joining. This is such a childish response.
