No NBA franchise, no new Seattle arena. No new Seattle arena, no NHL team will move there.
So main QC competitor for a franchise is gone.

Tony Kornheiser on "Pardon the interruption" said the NBA Milwaukee Bucks may go to Seattle instead.

Quebec City Arena will be delivered as planned in September 2015 and the current cost estimate fell below the $ 400 million, totaling $ 398.2 million, with a reserve of $ 45 million. This was said Monday Mayor Régis Labeaume, at the third session of the Committee of the Whole on the project.

I believe it will end up ~$410MM once they factor in the 3% party kickback

Following Winnipeg's example - be prepared, be quiet.
NHL Quebec Peladeau did not deny the rumors
http://translate.google.com/translat...es-rumeurs.php
"It is not we who impose the rules. This is a club of owners who determines these rules and we must respect that. I do not intend to position myself in any way besides these rules ... "said Pierre Karl Peladeau, speaker at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rimouski-Neigette.
The businessman would not accredit any rumors on the subject, little surprised to be asking questions about the return of the Nordiques.
"My answer will not change the questions I had to answer for several months. This is not what is most attractive to the media. We do not intend to comment (...) because it is the best way to achieve the ultimate goal, that of bringing a professional hockey team in Quebec. "

I wonder what the chances are of this team back in QC this year? I think it's nearly 100% they're in QC for 14-15... but would seem really really tight to get them out of Phoenix for the 13-14

Go Nordiques
Le Colisée de Québec sera prêt pour une franchise de la LNH cet automne. GO Nordiques !The Quebec Coliseum will be ready for a franchise in the NHL this fall. GO Nordic! (Translated by Bing)
http://translate.google.com/translat...a-lnh-23052013
The Pepsi Coliseum will be ready to host a professional hockey franchise this fall if the NHL ever decides assured the City Wednesday, while rumors are growing about a possible return of the Nordiques.
"We'll be ready. We screened on it, "said the vice-president of the Executive Committee, Richard Side, alongside an announcement of financial results for the City. He recalled that the tenders for the work up to NHL standards Pepsi Coliseum will be published in the coming days.
According to side, the development of new facilities for players and referees will be completed by September if the contracts are allocated in the coming month. More complex contracts for refrigeration and air conditioning may need to be completed later in September or October.

Celebrated Square Root Day

Let's hope this is like the Thrashers move two years ago. Subtle rumours, not much info and then BAM! Coyotes move to Quebec and begin play this September.

So the Red Wings and Blue Jackets I'd imagine will be heavily opposed to this. If Phoenix does end up in Quebec City that makes it 17-13 East versus West teams, and naturally you'd figure they'll be kicking the two former West teams right back out West.

I hope you are right. That sad sack franchise has no fan base unless they make the playoffs and then they are gone again. The only die hard fan they have posts on a Calgary Flames message board.

There sure do seem to be more and more signs that the NHL is going back to Quebec City. If not for next season, maybe the following season. Even the NHL seems a little more secretive these days.
Maybe I have selective memory, but with the Jets, wasn't it the rumour up until mid-May that the Coyotes were moving there and the acquisition of the Thrashers came as a bit of a surprise? I may not have been paying close attention though.
The reason I ask is that I am still wondering if maybe it will be another team that moves.

Or, you move Colorado back into the westernmost division, and move the two Florida teams into the Central. There's no ideal alignment for the Florida teams, but being with Dallas and Nashville makes more geographic sense than putting them with the northeastern teams.
PACIFIC (7): Anaheim, Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Los Angeles, San Jose, Vancouver
CENTRAL (8): Chicago, Dallas, Florida, Minnesota, Nashville, St Louis, Tampa Bay, Winnipeg
NORTHEAST (7): Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto
ATLANTIC (8): Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington

I don't think the Coyotes are going to go to Quebec, I think it'll be the Panthers.
