Well. You could count #3 as Morton's resignation. Or the only candidate that was running for the Leadership of the Alberta Party has stepped down. So now they are having a race.... with no candidates.

Kind of appropriate for a party about nothing....

Heard a rumor (from a fairly reliable source) that Kent Hehr was to cross to the Alberta Party this week. Wonder if he will be rethinking that now that the Leadership seat may be open.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a merger down the road between these two. They would benefit from the renewed bank account of the Libs, but ditch the baggage of the Liberal name under the Alberta Party banner.

Very interesting times ahead indeed. A renaissance of public engagement after almost a generation of systemic and institutionalized lethargy.

Nothing can be ruled out and neither the established parties nor the upstarts should be counting their chickens.

Ha, ha Dave Taylor. What a tool. Well played David Swann. Well played.

Meh, posturing. She has to say that kind of thing, but when the optics are better and there is a good story to go with it she can come clean and work on the merger.

Well, I think "merger" is likely the wrong term anyway. It'll be more like a reunification - under one banner or the other - as individuals, politicians, corporations and other groups eventually settle on the stronger party. No official merger, just one party quietly setting off into the sunset. And it wont happen until long after the next election, at least.

In my eyes the Alberta Party and Liberals are in limbo....they can't merge yet because they need a Tory or two to make it something more than disaffected Liberals. The Liberals can't go there yet because there is nothing to go to. The problem is that no Tory's will leave now because there is the leadership race there and they all know that with a new leader they can win again (which is what it all comes down to).

Interesting times. Stelmach, Swann and later this week Smith enters the PC leadership race? Don't these things happen in 3's?
I was really happy when Taylor went into politics. It got him off the radio. I was worried he'd lose.

So Doug Horner threw his name in the ring...he may not be a household name but since he is coming from TE Advanced Education and Technology Ministry he would be good for the economy IMO.
