If you are closer to 12th ave rather than 17th before a game, Id recommend native tongues for tacos or hop in brew for pizza and a proper beer.

Wow, Mercato is now one of the most overpriced restaurants in Calgary. All of their entrees, but one, are over $45. Throw in an appetizer, dessert, and wine as well..

Went to Klein/Harris on Stephen Avenue, used to be Home Tasting Room. They now have a pretty cool cocktail lounge area at the back of the restaurant with couches and the cocktails are definitely high end. I didn't have any food there, but I think it would make a decent spot for date night cocktails.

Went to Charbar the other night, and while it was quite good, I found it to be extremely loud. Good range of things to order for those who want to get out cheap, and those who want to spend a fortune.

I am so sad to hear that Buon Giorno is closing. I've been going there since I learned to walk. Does anyone know what the closing date is? Would like to plan one last meal there.

That is probably my favorite Italian place. I love going there. The food is always great and the prices are quite reasonable. I will have to try to get one last meal as well.

That holds serious memories for me.
It was where my wife (then G/F) took her parents and my parents to meet for the first time.
Why is it closing?

Probably because it's terrible now, there is a reason all the awards it posts on its walls are all from over a decade ago.

Fair enough, that memory is many moons ago.

Ya, maybe I just had a bad experience, but that place was brutal when I went a few years ago- basically seems like one of those touristy restaurants whose goal is volume- get people in and out as quickly as possible.

Buon Giorno is a favourite of a supplier our ours, he'd take us for lunch there every year around Christmas. Never had a bad meal, always enjoyed my yearly visit there.

Just got off the phone with them. They said they're not closing, just different owners. Rejoice!

Any confirmation that Buon Giorno is closing or is that just a rumor?

The Buon Giorno rumour is rearing its head again. Forumer on SSP says he saw on twitter that they were closing down and a bunch of other shops along that stretch are all going for a new development.

Found the tweet, sent at 5:54pm yesterday:
Stuart @Stu_parnell @Crackmacs so buon giorno on 17th is closing. Tomorrow is last day. A sad day, apparently this is progress. New building going up.
Well easy enough to confirm, if today is indeed there last day they'll be shuttered tomorrow and we'll know for sure. Then the speculation as to what is going into that area starts. How many properties were bought? I'd guess they'd go for something like the new Ventus midrise building going up right now on the block to the west next to the Best Buy building.

David Parker column from May 23rd all about this area, according to it the new owners of the properties have someone coming in to continue to run Buon Giorno until they redevelop, which could be 5 years out:

http://dailyhive.com/calgary/things-...drink-calgary#
62 things to eat and drink in calgary before you die. So many places/items I haven't tried yet. A couple observations-
-odd that the brand new cluck n cleaver made a list of places to eat before you die. Really? Not to mention I haven't heard many people give it more than a 'meh'.
-I don't think I have even heard of OEB. Any feedback?
