I didn't think the second MTL goal was on Rittich. Saveable, but it seemed like a great shot by a guy with too much time and space in a somewhat dangerous scoring area. I'd pin that one on the poor backchecking of the forwards.

I hope the wake up and can pull this off, they had some good shifts in the second but Rittich needed to make those saves. It just seems like last year they would have made it 3-0 and deflated the other team, they really need a shakeup as it just doesn’t seem like the chemistry is there this year.

Backlund's been skating quickly this year. His aim is just way way off, which is entirely mental IMO.

The Flames, having just lost 2 straight home games after ghosting the second period, and talking post-game about how good teams don't lose 2 games in a row, decided to not show up at all so far tonight through 40 minutes.
37.97 CF%
39.68 FF%
38.1 SF%
38.46% SCF%
36.84 HDCF%
35.27 xGF%
Embarrassing.
Their play under Geoff Ward is very concerning and not neeeeeeeeeearly as good as the record would indicate.

Lol. They’re 7-2 and I think they played well in both losses. What game in that win streak did they not deserve?

3rd is pushing it. I don't see a NHL GM paying more than a 4th rounder for a forward player who will only contribute defensively. To win games in the NHL, you gotta get more goals than the other team. That requires having players that can score. You use your premium assets to acquire those players, not someone like Backlund who isn't gonna contribute on the scoring summary.

Be lucky to even get a mid rounder. He's an offensive black hole, with no signs of it turning around, and on the wrong side of 30 to boot.
|
Maybe not a first, but to a team desperately in need of defense...
Florida for Hoffman and 2 3rds would help both teams. cough cough

Well, to be fair the league wants it both ways. It's a "dump" against the flames or control. Depending on which screws us.

Could be a nagging injury too. Hasn't he basically had something relatively minor that's hampered him every year recently?
Could be a bad wrist or hand, which would explain moving him to wing as well. Definitely frustrating to watch.

In the 9 games with Geoff Ward behind the bench prior to tonight, the Flames at 5v5:
47.84 CF%
48.21 FF%
46.44 SF%
49.30 SCF%
50.09 xGF%
Only improvement is their HDCF% (54.61%)
This is not a good team playing good hockey under a good coach.
Don't let the record fool you.

Score always and ignore defense is a pretty good way to be a fan of the Oilers if you're interested...
But I don't think you can honestly believe that a GM will turn down a 3rd for Backs - that's hyperbole after a bad period
He's shanked a ton this year, and looked to be drowning at times to start the season. But as with most of the roster, he's rounded back into form. I also want more from Backs rn, but what I'm reading is absurd

Except that he skates really fast....thats not his issue though.
He looks defeated the second the puck hits his stick....like completely panicked and is sure he wont score. Its an issue.

7 wins is a much more important statistic than percentages. I’ll stick to those thanks.
