2014-15 General Adirondack Flames Discussion Thread

Ryan Huska wants to see an uptempo team when the Adirondack Flames take the ice, and he’s drilling them that way in training camp.

The Flames don’t break at the board to talk about drills often in practice. That would only slow things down. Instead, the coaches go over a few drills before they take the ice. Huska said he expects players will know the drills pretty quickly and they won’t even have to do that.

“Our plan is try to wear teams down over the course of a game,” Huska said. “So we need to learn to do things fast when we’re on the ice in practice.”

So far, the players are responding to that style.

Knight is too talented to be the fourth line center. That will probably be Elson's job.

There are going to be some very disappointed players sitting in the press box on some nights (once everyone's healthy). Everyone on that roster showed they deserve to be in the lineup each night (except for Gillies).

I really like the look of that first line!

I'm a firm believer we need to switch Knight over to RW, if we ever hope for him to make the big Flames. I just can't see how he ever gets a shot at being an NHL C, when the depth chart is (IMO):

IIRC Granlund and Reinhart worked great together and Knight and Baertschi made a good pair as well. Maybe move Ferland to RW.

Good chemistry and balance.

My only concern is the complete lack of right-handed shooters on either of the top two lines. However, considering skill and compatibility I don't think that should matter greatly for this Adirondack team. That's a very solid AHL group when healthy.

There might be an overall organizational concern for the Flames regarding too few right-handed shooters.

Knight is really good at winning face-offs. Plus all the other centermen are lefties. Reinhart is the one who needs to make a permanent switch to wing and Janko is below everyone the depth chart right now.

Could play him similar to how we used to play Iginla. He would take the faceoff then slide over.

Kinda interesting looking at his FO stats actually...he took 400+ faceoffs in each of his last 2 full seasons with the Flames and 237 in 31 games for us in 12-13, but had only 37 all year last year with the Bruins.

Unless something has changed drastically from last year, I don't think this is a possibility. The Flames organization was adamant about him being developed and used as a centre. The Heat I believe solely used him as a centre. Far as I know, this was the directive from the top.

Adiondrack cuts 10 players

Ten tryout players were cut, including four forwards, six defensemen and one goalie.

Mathieu Corbeil was the goaltender cut and with Joni Ortio on his way to Glens Falls, Doug Carr may not be far behind. Ortio and Brad Thiessen, already with Adirondack, are under contract with Calgary while Carr is on a tryout.

Christophe Lalonde, Brent Gwidt, Trent Daavetilla and Matt Lowry were all cut. Lalonde is eligible to return to Montcon (QMJHL) for one more year. The others will likely find spots in the ECHL or other AHL teams.

Nolan Julseth-White (a Union alumnus), Daniel Johnston, Zach Tolkinen, Collin Bowman and Teigan Zahn were all cut at defensemen.

Yea, prefer to see Carr as backup. The boys played better in front of him then any other backup.
