The Oilers have been playing their best hockey of the entire season. In games 45-51 they picked up 11 points with a 5-1-1 record. That's the equivalent of a 129 point season. Their reward for that incredible accomplishment? Being within 10 points of the black line at the conclusion of game #51. Unfortunately for them, in games 1-44 they only earned enough points to put them on pace for a 73 point season. The peak you see at game #51 may be the metaphorical peak of the Oilers' season.
The worse news for them, is with a loss in game #52, they dropped below the bottom of the graph.
I believe it was the poet, Eminem, who described the blue snake's fall best:
He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now
The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow!
Snap back to reality, oh there goes gravity
The red snake is 14 points above the blue snake, but the blue snake has two games in hand. The red snake is 0.780 points above the black line, while the blue snake is 10.878 points below it.

Only thing wrong with this description is that the blue snake has had gravity all season long.

I wish the snake projected backwards into the pre-season and showed the bookmaker-boosted hopes of Oilers fans.
Plan the parade route indeed.

With reigning league MVP and scoring champion Connor McDavid leading the way, many experts already see the Oilers as the team to beat in the Western Conference and possible heir apparent to the Penguins' championship throne.

After 56 games played the red snake is back above the black line. It exceeds the black line by 0.439 points, the green snake by 1 point, and the purple snake by 7 points.

That little streak the Oil went on ended up getting them nowhere, and has been completely cancelled out by their recent slide.
I know its not mathematical, but they're cooked. Done.

It’d be nice to go on one of those long winning streaks while already above the line to start. We’re always flirting with snake disaster.

The last 3 games have hurt the snake. The red snake is now 2.415 points below the black line, the furthest its been since the conclusion of game #40. The red snake is now on pace for 93 points. It would require 27 points in the remaining 21 games (13-7-1 record), which is a 105 point pace over those games. If the Flames win the next 3 games, the red snake is back over the black line.
The red snake currently sits 1 point below the green snake and 3 points above the purple snake. The purple snake is about to win 8 more games in a row, so if the red snake kept pace with it, that would be great. The green snake is also about to go on a run with a 5-1-1 record in the next 7 games. The 1 loss is in the next game.

I feel like the snake is in that period of a WWE fight when the heel seems to be winning, and the hero is flittering about dazed and confused, looking like he'll walk right into the setup of the heel's finishing move. Might that be an upcoming oilers game? I sure hope the snake is able to pull out the surprise turnaround!
