I actually think is correct on some level. They have no real need to pick a defenseman in theupcoming draft, unless a D-man is available that they can't pass up. It's very exciting.

Poirier, Brzustewicz, Morin, Kuznetsov, Solovyov, Grushnikov, Hurtig, Jurmo. Pretty darn good, though we may be lacking a true #1.

For now they don't have a legit #1 but I think they'll land one at the draft this year.

Still best player availble.
They still lack a true number 1 dman or a top line center, and IMO that should be what the 1st is used on.
I still hope they can add another 1st or 2 though for Markstrom and Hanifin

You think we'll take one of the big 7 D with our first pick?

You can definitely draft a true number one dman where the Flames will be drafting (assuming the deadline deals end up dropping them out of the hunt). They should be getting a top 10 pick.

They pretty much have to take the best player available.

I think it really depends on what they do with markstrom. He is playing so well this year I can't see the flames drafting higher than 13th or 14th with him carrying the bulk of the remaining starts even with hanifin and tanev gone. If he goes I could see them maybe breaking into that first tier of prospects and the top 10. Was really too bad for everyone when that devils deal that sounded like it was done fell apart.
Potentially cost the devils a shot at the playoffs and the flames quite a few draft slots. Doesn't seem like there is a lot of smoke around him otherwise

I meant more in what they would target in a Hanifin trade or a Markstrom trade.
These are the big meaty assets where you can actually snag a good young forward. Or at least that's my hope.
They can draft whomever. If they're in a spot to grab Lindstrom or Demidov or Catton, Can't see them skipping any of those 3 for a D man. And it's a coin flip if they would take a D man over a Konsta helenius.

Watched him play tonight. Shifty, skilled, but wasn't particularily dangerous. Spokane seemed a bit checked out in a 5-1 loss, but I was expecting more.

If the flames can swing the Devils first I’d LOVE to walk away from the draft with Yakemchuk and Iginla
