Can anyone tell me why the Borg in the cube were starving? I didn’t understand that part.
I think it was supposed to be a continuation of the Voyager finale. Alternate timeline Janeway gave the queen a pathogen when she was assimilated. The pathogen then decimated the borg.
To survive, all resources was rerouted to keep the queen alive.

Yeah, they did a really bad job of explaining that.
The Queen said something to Picard along the lines of "You left us decimeated" or something like that.
If she had said "Janeway left us like this", and then one line of exposition from Picard about "When she returned from the D-Quad" it would have been much clearer.

No...they did a terrible job of explaining that.
I assumed it was just more babble that we were supposed to overlook and move along.
Look...this show hits us hard in the 'memberberries' but lets not pretend it was well written.
I think I equally loved and hated this season. Its so pretentious and self-serving and bad but it gave me what I wanted. Its very conflicting.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Jonathan Frakes is at Fan Expo this weekend. I only cared about seeing Nimoy and Shatner (what a disappointment the Shat was lol) but those bucket list things are done.

I think we at CP should petition to have Bring_Back_Shantz's username changed to 'Bring_Back_Shat' and then see if we can get a 'Star Trek: Kirk' series produced!
Hes only in his early 90s or something?

I have to agree and forward Sureloss' argument here; if the borg were actually very interested in assimilating the federation, they could have probably done so by sending 5-6 cubes at once. We know they're capable of amassing forces like this, Voyager flew past a fleet of 9 cubes at one point. Seven is present as the borg assimilate a world with multiple cubes as well (seemingly a much less advanced target than the federation...)
Yeah, the federation was far, far away from regular borg space. And there are also some relatively powerful enemies between them and the federation (the romulans, pre destruction of romulus at least, for example). Yet, with transwarp technology it shouldn't have been a real issue to make an overwhelming assault on earth a priority if the borg REALLY wanted to do it.
IMO there's a bit of a farming element going on, similar to Icheb's planet. The federation is pumping out new ideas and new technology at a pretty unreal clip. The borg might be quite content to let them thrive far away and just occasionally go in for a nice harvest of fresh biological and technological distinctiveness. We're like a raspberry patch.
There was a book series about 15 years ago-- Destiny, I think?-- that touched on the Borg finally invading the Federation with thousands of cubes.
The first two invasions were testing the waters, scouting out the Federation's technology, weapons capabilities, etc. The events of the Voyager finale all but decimated the Borg, and the threat level of the federation shot up the list.
That's a clumsy summary. I used to love Star Trek fiction: they were light and fluffy, and I could tear through a novel in an afternoon, but it was never really about retaining plot details.
I think there is definitely some hubris governing the hivemind. Consider their ignoring people on the cubes, assuming them insignificant, which constantly bites them in the ass. Consider their assuming they can take Species 8472 and getting absolutely fisted to almost this point. Consider them leaving things they consider insignificant open to meddling in their code. Consider the Queen's assumption Data was going to take the offer of humanity without having a failsafe to control him.
The Borg are scary, imposing but not 'perfect'. They likely genuinely believed one cube was more than enough both times and surely enough they would have been if not for this hubris.
Yeah, they did a really bad job of explaining that.

So basically, Janeway comitted genocide. Yikes. So much for them being freed to reclaim their humanity I guess. Did the same thing Picard was going to do until he got to know Hugh.
I actually watched all of Voyager 20 years ago when it was on TV, but I guess I forgot about the finale involving that.

Janeway....yeah. She uh, really didnt like the Borg. Like...a lot.
And she didnt let morality really get in the way of that dislike.
Voyager hopped on the Star Trek train when things were getting a little darker. Not 'Titan's Bridge' dark, but you get the idea.

That was destiny, it also had some stuff with the NX-02 Columbia about the creation of The Borg. It was one of those Enterprise, Titan, and I think Ezri Dax's Aventine crossovers.

When Janeway uses a biological weapon to commit genocide to bring her crew home she is a hero.
When section 31 uses a biological weapon to commit genocide to end the bloodiest war the Federation has ever seen, they are war criminals.
Starfleet with their double standards.
But it does add to the reasoning about why the radicalized changelings and Borg would want to team up.

I mean, technically it was Future/Time traveling Janeway.
No explanation why someone from the 29th century didn't show up to clean up that mess, but hey, maybe the temporal prime directive has a loophole for genociding the borg.

I still keep going back to Axanar, which was something that I really wanted to see to completion, just because every part of it, from effects to story lines to the cast to design was incredible.
