I think fleury would be a good pick. Maybe trade down a spot or two grab an extra 3rd. I see his skills translate to the nhl very well. Fast, skilled, big, aggressive. Please and thank you. We have a plethora of young talent up front (Bart, Johnny hockey, Emile, klimchuk, granlund, monny, Reinhart). On d we have three good prospects in kanzig Witherspoon and sieloff all of whom I like but realistically will be 4 5 or 6 defencemen. I think kulak and culling could be good but they aren't the type of players Haydn fleury is. We have gio and Brodie as top 4 guys. Fleury looks to be a Jacob trouba type. Even with fleury I still think we are thiner on the blueline than up front. My two cents.

If Edm ends up top 3 I suggest offering them some magic beans.
Maybe we can get a prospect to change his name to Wayne Messier.

If we are planning to get Fleury at such a high pick, I certainly hope he is a top 4 shut-down defenseman like Regehr. But having a top 5 pick for the first time (4th or 5th), I don't think you pick a defenseman unless Ekblad somehow manages to drop that many spots (which is highly unlikely). Use your second and third round picks for defenseman, we can always sign a UFA or two. If you want Fleury that bad, you trade your pick to get additional picks and moving a few spots back.
For the Flames: Moving up to the top 3 > Trading down a few spots for an additional pick/prospects

No to Fleury as defensemen are so hard to predict their potential/how they will end up. Doesn't help that the Flames track record at developing defensemen isn't all that great.
Please pick Dal Colle/Drats/Bennett/Reinhart.. especially if we get the #4 pick.
edit: forgot to say: When we are drafting this high, you have to take BPA and not by organizational needs.

Fleury has probably fewer question marks than the wingers in that next grouping. Might not have the high end ceiling, but he will have a higher floor.
He definitely fills an organizational need.
Flames have a ton of prospects that can play the left side wing, and there will be guys that can slide over, or that are better on the wing than at center.
But on defense we are truly lacking a top four defenseman that can play in all situations that has good size and mobility.
Ekblad
Reinhart
Bennett
Draisaitl
Dal Colle
Fleury
That is how my top six is right now.

Burke says on the Fan 960 that he has great confidence in Tod Button.
He also says that there is only 1 dman in the top 10.
That rules out Fleury as the Flames top pick, barring trading down 5 or more spots

I wouldn't say that was great news as it would be good to have another defenceman ranked high but I do have a lot of faith in Button as well.

Well to be fair I suppose Fleury could still work his way up the list with a good showing at the u18s and depending on how interviews go with him and others.
but as of now sounds like the only dman in the flames' top 10 is Ekblad

Woo, better prospect and odds at the lottery!
Hope this isn't the start of a slide for the team, but wouldn't exactly hurt us if it is.

Go Islanders. Man, if they can hold that lead on us, we got a real shot at a potential star.

yeah but that loss was the most frustrating flames game since the the olympic break IMO. I like that we aren't that team anymore.

If Florida ends up 3rd and we hold on to 4th, do you guys think we could make a trade to swap positions? Edm sure as hell wouldn't even talk to us about it, but maybe Tallon can be convinced if we dangle a 2nd and a prospect. Perhaps he sees the top 4-5 as on the same level, and would be willing to move down one spot for an acceptable price.
To get a shot at one of Benntt/Ekblad/Reinhart would be huge for our system.

Hellllllooooooo one of the top picks! May not be Ekblad, may not be Reinhardt. But Draisaitl or Bennett would be utterly amazing.

Peterborough downs Kingston.
Bennett, Spencer and McKeown likely to go to the World u18s.
