Green and Bruihl bolstering the case for Atkins to get at least two big bullpen arms.
Glad they ended the game with at least a bit of positivity as well.

Yeah. You know you've decided to give up on today and save the leverage guys for Baltimore when they put Green in.
That's probably the right choice given the the night game/double header/day game in 3 days for that series.

I would be really surprised if Jhoan Duran or Emmanuel Clase get moved this week. Clase is signed for 1 more year and then has 2 club options for $10m after that. Duran has 2 arb years left. So no rush to move either player, unless a team like the Dodgers comes in and unloads a ton of prospect capital for them.
I am all for the Jays going for it, but I need an impact position player or starter with lots of control to give up Nimmala, Yesavage, Tiedemann, King or Stephan.
Orelvis Martinez, Jonatan Clase and Leo Jimenez are all out of options next year, so those are players I would look to use to acquire bullpen help.
Michael Soroka is a guy who can start and can pitch out of the pen, he would be a guy to add to eat some innings down the stretch.
David Bednar is a high leverage arm who still has another year of control. Pete Fairbanks is another guy who could be available and has a club option for next year. Raisel Iglesias should be available.

I'm always going to cheer for the only Calgarian in MLB, and I love the idea of the Jays acquiring Soroka just for that reason. But I don't think he's an upgrade on the current rotation, and they need more high leverage guys/guys you can use in the playoffs in the pen, which isn't really the role I'd see him in. So baseball wise it doesn't seem like a good fit to me.
I'd love to see them sign him in the offseason and get Walker and the boys in Dunedin working with him - I think there's a chance a move to Canada unleashes what he was in his rookie year. Sort of the baseball version of Sam Bennett going to Florida.

Is Alcantera too risky and too pricey? Marlins going to ask for a ton for possibly used goods?

I think the Jays need to get someone that's a clear upgrade based on current year performance. He has a 6.66 ERA and 1.433 WHIP. Maybe playing in front of TO defense helps a bit, but his walks/9 innings are up considerably and strikeouts/9 are down quite a bit.
I'd rather spend that price on a couple of higher leverage relievers - pry Clase away if you're going to spend prospect capital.

I think the Jays are happy with the starting 5 right now, but it would be good to have an insurance policy to cover some innings. Even it's to give one of the several vets on the staff some time off. They also don't really have a long man out of the pen at the moment. I think Soroka can fill that role, but yeah not a top end need, just some depth.

Unless one of their current starters goes down between now and the deadline I don't think the Jays will be adding a high end starter at the deadline, I think it will be more of a depth starter if they add.
I think high leverage bullpen arms will be the number 1 target, followed by a depth starter that can pitch out of the pen for now, followed by a righty power bat. I could see another depth catcher being of interest if Kirk is going to be out for any significant length of time.

One thing to keep in mind as far as starters go is that Bassitt and Scherzer are gone next year, Gausman is gone the year after that. So there is going to be some rebuilding of the rotation happening over the next couple of seasons, so if they feel they can get a deal on a starter with control now they might take a look at it.
There are a lot of exciting options and a lot of question marks in the organization as far as starters go.
Manoah and Francis are big question marks going forward, not too sure what you are going to get from either player at this point.
Jake Bloss, Adam Macko and Lazaro Estrada all show potential, but all have struggled at AAA.
Ricky Tiedemann Hasn't pitched in a year.
The next wave afer that has been really impressive, Trey Yesavage, Kendry Rojas, Khal Stephan, but they all just made it to AA. So they probably won't factor in till late next year at the earliest.
So if you can get a front of the rotation starter at a bargain you have to at least look at it now, but it will most likely happen in the offseason.

Emmanuel Clase is being investigated for gambling. You can take him off the market.

That was probably the only legitimate reason he was on the market in the first place. Cleveland knew something was coming and was probably looking at options before it went sideways.

Second Guardians pitched under investigation. So if they knew it was coming they should probably figure out what the heck is going on in their clubhouse.

Stupid Jays keeps winning, the cost of tickets is over double what I paid for last year.
CP Brain Trust... what's the best place to get Jays tickets?
I'm this close to just buying off TicketMaster but if there's another site that I could get a better deal on, I'd be a for it.

If the Jays are looking for a bat I wonder if they look at Taylor Ward. 24 HR this year, under control for next year as well. His home and away splits are crazy.
Home: 189 AB, 8 HR, .175 Avg., .245 OBP, .370 SLG, .615 OPS
Away: 208 AB, 16 HR, .284 Avg., .366 OBP, .591 SLG, .957 OPS
Get this guy out of Anaheim.
He also has a .924 OPS vs Lefties this year.

That last half inning pretty much sums up the difference between this year and last for the Jays. A 3-0 deficit was a killshot against the Jays last year. This year they just go about business, have smart AB's, and get it right back.
