If the NHL is trying to rig the series in Edmonton's favour they are doing it wrong.

Dude, it's not the number of penalties. It's the actual calls.

And the timing of them. Like preventing a 2 on 1 by calling a "trip" on a bodycheck. Or not calling a trip that undoubtedly would have been called if the players were reversed.

Exactly, and instead of the Kings likely having a 4-1 lead, the refs basically enabled them to tie the game at 3.

Yup. McDavid trips Doughty - no call, Oilers score on the same play. Draisaitl cleanly checked, 2 on one developing, phantom trip called, Oilers score on powerplay.
Last I saw the Kings had a power play after it was a 3 goal lead, and maybe they got more after I quit watching, so the penalties may well have "evened out" but they werne't even as far as the effect on the game went.

He's too thick to comprehend anything that doesn't come off in a way that flatters the Oilers.
They can't even admit that McDavid embellishes.
Evidently they make them with peanut sized brains up there (probably the water). Easier to brainwash for the team-owned media.
I mean look, they can't even figure out what board they're on and why people here won't agree with them.

This series was there for the taking.
Lock down that 3 goal lead in Game 4 and you pretty much cruise to Round 2.
Too bad. A 4-1 or 4-2 series win for the Kings could have done irreparable harm to the Oilers franchise.

Every 7 game series ever had a team up 3-2
It's not over

Has anyone agreed with your "Katz has bought off the league/refs/media/corn dog vender" hot takes?
Seems like he just wants to talk hockey and is using actual numbers instead of tin foil to make a point. Take a serious 5, my dude.

Yeah I'm with McLellan. If it's called a trip it's a trip. And vice versa. No point crying about it. Kings out shot Oilers like 11-2 in third period and couldn't get that 5th goal on floppy Campbell. The loss is 100% on their failure to execute and finish. I think they will come back even the series tomorrow and will get another game 7 chance in Edmonton. Not sure they can win that one but they can get it there

Korpisalo let in a couple of softies in game 4, but the officials largely took control of that one in order to make the game closer. It was text book game management once L.A. got the 3 goal lead.

Yep, scheduling at Crypto arena isn't easy with the Clippers, Kings, and Lakers all playing in the 1st round of the playoffs.

NHL just wanted to give an opportunity to rest McDavid and Draisaitl because knowing they will be playing 25 mins plus every night.

It seems lately that you hear this mentioned a lot more lately. The number of powerplays each team gets. Its sort have crept into the description of the game. Like there is a target number or something, with little regard to actual infractions.

It looks like Golden Boy might have a leg injury too. There's a video of him that's on Twitter where he looks in discomfort. More excuse fuel if LA can win the next two games.

That game exemplifies where the league has lost me these days and why I watch highlights more than I'll sit down for a full 60.
There are so many more swings in games now because it's manufactured.
Penalties against the grain of play turn momentum, and then when the team behind scores they feed them another timely one to keep momentum going that way. Then whistles are put away only once the game is back on even terms or within a goal.
Problem with that is the team that built the multi goal lead earned that fairly, while the other team got help because of circumstance (still have to take advantage of the help, so some credit is still due, but the point remains).
Comebacks were better when they were actually an honest to god challenge to complete because the standards didn't suddenly change mid game.
Because the Oilers biggest strength is its power play, this essentially grants the refs a lot of say over the result of games theyre involved in. A few freebie calls to the Oilers almost assures they get a couple more goals. This is why it's so magnified around that circus.
