The other annoying part of the perpetually inclined is at meal service, or any time you want to use your tray table. Fortunately the flight attendant told the guy she needed his seat up so there was even space to pass the trays. It sucks trying to eat like that, and I was halfway through my meal by that time. I don't even know how you comfortably eat with your seat fully reclined. Or maybe you just like food all over your lap.

Recliners are kind of entitled jerks. A bigger jerk yanks on the seat in front to get up.

If business class is not an option, you always need to book exit row where the row in front of you can’t recline.

I find this attitude kind of fascinating. Sometimes they are entitled jerks, most times they’re not (in both cases).

But who is more entitled? The person reclining their seat, which is designed to recline, or the person behind them that thinks they shouldn’t do that because it they think it affects them? Same with the headrest, is Dion an entitled jerk because he’s 67 with bad knees? Or is it the guy in front of him pissed off because someone dared touch his seat?

I lean toward the latter, personally. The entitled victim complex some people have in public is crazy.

Exit row is awesome. Sadly travelling with children its not an option (until they turn 16).

How is operating the seat in the position it is meant to operate in in flight being an entitled jerk. This attitude is just wrong. The space the seat reclines into is owned by the person reclining. They paid for that space.

All correct but I hate conflict of any sort because it will consume me for the flight and for years after so best avoid that by being slightly less comfortable in the now. Back in the day no one gave a crap about the recline. And if you need to grab the headrest, have two less cheeseburgers after midnight.

It's not entirely theirs. You can't use that space at takeoff and landing, and are supposed to put it up at meal service, indicating it is infringing on the other's use of the space during that time. It can also make it extremely difficult to access the space under the seat in front of you, if you need to get anything. Basically impossible if you are stuck in a middle seat and the seat in front is reclined.

Ideally they'd recline a small amount, given the lack of space available today. It was fine back when you had plenty of gap between them, but now that it is a cattle car, perhaps the deep recline should be more limited. Ultimately this is an airline created issue, and we are left to navigate it.

It's not even the grabbing of the headrest, it's the complete disregard for the user of said headrest. Not many will be upset about an ancient geezer doing their best to get up. It's the fact that many don't even try to do it without jerking the seat all around, or, you know, just standing like a normal human. I feel that you should do your best in life to not impact the existence of others, as long as it is reasonable. The dude behind me was a giant, so I decided maybe I don't need to recline for most of the flight, and only did a little when I wanted to nap.

No I paid for that space behind me I own it. I don’t even let people store stuff on the back of my seat or lean forward if they have a bad back. Even if I’m not reclining that air space is mine. And I’m not afraid to tell people and will be quoting this thread as my proof.

I've been saying for years, they should design airline seats so that when you recline, the seat slides forward and the whole thing pivots so the back doesn't encroach on the row behind.

That way, if you choose to recline, you're sacrificing your own leg room and not forcing the person behind you to sacrifice theirs.

Last year, I went to Spain and that's how the seats on the trains there work (and I'm sure it's the same on trains in many countries, I just noticed it in Spain)...
Spoiler!

As you can see in the photo, the back of the seats are a solid piece that is fixed in place.

Of course, planes have seats that do that in the Premium cabins, so it's just the poor people in the back of the plane that they don't care about. I'm sure the cost of installing functional seats would raise the price of a ticket by 2 cents per flight spread over the life of the plane, so they won't do it.

You know what cures all this, my dear friends in Ativan land. It is a flying revelation. I did not care about anything. Gin and tonic and an Ativan. It was unreal how nice it was. I didn’t want to get off the plane.

Is that the age at which they're allowed to be sacrificed now?

I’ll give you +2 gear grinder bonus points for performing both hyperbolic complaining about a flying gear grinder and soft justification of why you doing a different flying gear grinder was actually kind and respectful in the same post.

They should abolish seats entirely and just have all of the passengers suspended in hammocks. Meal service is a cup of gruel and grog.

Or, they could take my advice and bring back the Zeppelins! Travel in style. Just remember your ticket.

Ah, the seat reclining gear grinder. A timeless classic.

What are we doing next, tipping? Zipper merges?

Peanuts on planes. The lady a row away audibly huffed when she was told cookies or pretzels were all they had.

"Well if you're going to be huffy about it then now we have neither!"
