Well 5 years from now Lindholm will be a couple months from turning 34. But yes, the Flames could buy out Kadri that year, maybe Huberdeau a year or two later and then maybe buyout Lindholm around the same time that they buy out Huberdeau. That would always be an option.

Pittsburgh has Letang, Karlsson, Malkin and Crosby.
Colorado has Mackinnon and Landeskog. Boston has Marchand.

That's not dealing with anything I said.

Your just queueing up another rant.

The current management team has been assembled a few months, not 35 years.

The management group is irrelevant when the marching orders are the same.

Multiple Fortune 500 companies would (successfully!) argue that point.

I guess it depends upon how you define relevant.

Between this thread which is supposed to be talking about Lindholm re-signing and the trade thread there are probably close to 100 pages of fans arguing about whether or not its better to be an empty glass fan who cries out that everything about the team is garbage or a 2/3 glass full fan that is looking forward to the future with anticipation to see what might happen.

Hard to call the Calgary Flames franchise irrelevant when it has such a passionate fanbase.

An franchise that is not relevant would not even have a website like this for fans, owned and run by fans, let alone have the energetic arguments that occur on it.

Teams sole purpose is to entertain its fans and give them a break from reality. Seems like it is doing its job.

We're a Canadian city so we're going to have a rabid fan base regardless. I'm talking big picture relevancy in the league. We're like the Wild or Islanders but with even less success. Like I've said before if winning the Cup is a 10 for fan experience we have been hovering around a 4-6 for the past 35 years other than one run which would be a 9. Pretty much the highlight of most fans on here. So the only reason this franchise is able to get away with such mediocre results is because of its location. But the passion of the fans is even more reason to give them what they deserve, an elite championship caliber team. Not some middle of the road never horrible never great team. This isnt some small market American city were trying to sell hockey to.

do you really believe that the Flames are not trying to win a cup though? like honestly, not just to be argumentative.

Every team is probably trying in some regard...I don't think it's their priority based on their actions.

Well the ownership group has changed over the 35 years too.

I guess you can go back and find the day that Murray Edwards became the main guy and complain about that window!

Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good talking point. Edit - Should be clear that I’m agreeing with you pointing out his terrible take.

I don't know about controlling interest, but Murray became the face of the ownership group in the years leading up to Harley Hotchkiss's passing in 2011. But, honestly any "mandate" from the owners for the operation of the team has not really changed since before the 2005 lockout.

and that's fair so it's more about how they are doing it because i truly believe they would love to win the cup...you want them to do even more to achieve it.

Whatever time period makes you happy. The end of the Iginla era there was a reluctance to rebuild until the very end. There was clearly a motivation to speed it up using so many draft picks when they were forced into it. The end of the Gaudreau/Tkachuk era there was clearly an order to not rebuild even though it was an ideal time. Its already been posted on here that if the Flames were to rebuild again that ownership want the time period to be very short. So ya sorry you get butt hurt about my opinion but I think ownership is short sighted in their approach and their results are very average.

I just personally feel they half ass it. Which at the end of the day it's their team they can run it however they want. But to me the results tell the story. It's like someone saying they want to lose weight and they exercise every day but eat like crap still. You might get some results, but you're not maximizing your results. You want to lose weight, but you're not willing to fully make the sacrifice, so you get average results. So if you truly want something you have to be all in. I feel they have one foot in and one foot out. We're going to get younger and try to get better at the same time. Very difficult to do that.

It's possible that the Flames feel like they can't survive a prolonged period of being a bottom feeder. That a tank would see them competitive again - but they'd be in Houston by that time.

From a fan perspective I think Canadians are passionate and knowledgeable there isn't an issue. From a financial standpoint that is entirely their call. You'd think if you built a really strong team that should provide a solid decade of positive financials. But I think a team should be either sacrificing the present for the future or the future for the present if your priority is winning it all. Right now I feel like they don't want to do either. Which again is their choice but I think it mostly gives you half results or makes things extra difficult to achieve more than average results.
