Shoots right - another reason to draft Lindholm IMO.

Love how its assumed that its possible that we pass teams four points ahead of us but impossible for teams one point behind us to pass us. Particularly when the Flames are playing the better teams.
Well we hold the ROW advantage over most teams near the bottom (Philly being the exception IIRC). I'm hoping Tampa makes a strong push in order to secure one of their guys the scoring title, but I've seen enough of Edmonton and Carolina to be sure they won't win any more this season.

Yeah you'd have to think a guy like Filip Forsberg could've been the return.

Out of all the guys who have been given NMCs Glencross deserved his with the massive cap discount he gave us. If he doesn't want to move that's fair and we can still use him moving forward.

Unfortunately, I think if we draft 7th, someone is likely going to make that decision for us and take him first.

Future Consideration's latest draft rankings.

Would be happy if we came out of the draft with Lindholm/JT Compher/ Gauthier. Morin is intriguing as well for the Pittsburgh pick. Big defenseman (6' 6") who plays very physical. Not great offensive upside though.

Barring a drastic turn of events which could push us up to drafting as high as 4th, I think it's pretty safe to assume we'll be drafting around 7th. The player I'd personally be happy with is Sean Monahan. He played on a bad team, but he was 38 points better off than the next highest scorer. He's been a leader on a poor team, and basically been doing it all by himself. Additionally, we've been crying out for a good face off man for years. He is also a little bit older than his draft class, so he's a bit closer to being NHL ready which should be an advantage for us.

Monahan has all the tools you’d want in a centre. He is big and powerful, with ideal NHL size. His stickhandling is very good, and he protects the puck well. He is able to make plays, off the rush, in the cycle game, and get in quickly with a strong and aggressive forecheck. Monahan drives the net hard, and gets to the dirty areas, where he can use soft hands to score goals. He also has a very good wrist shot, and a quick release. His passing skills and vision make him a great playmaker, and he is able to make his linemates better.
Monahan’s skating is good for a guy his size.# His stride is fluid and Monahan is able to generate good top end speed as a result.# His acceleration, agility and edgework are good, allowing Monahan to get by defenders and take advantage of his good stickhandling in making moves past defenders. Monahan’s best asset though is his strength on the puck and his balance.# He fights through tight checking, doesn’t get knocked off the puck, and makes plays.
Monahan’s two way game is amongst the best developed in this draft.# His face-off ability is very good, and he was voted by OHL’s coaches as the 3rd best faceoff man in the Eastern Conference, impressive for a draft eligible player.# He uses his size and strength effectively in the defensive end of the ice, and contains opponents off the cycle.# He cuts down passing and shooting lanes, and is not shy about blocking shots.# Monahan’s high effort level and commitment will make him NHL ready sooner rather than later.
Monahan’s game and style remind us of Eric Staal.# He can be effective in all areas of the ice, in all situations, and make the players around him better.# He plays a strong physical game as well.# Potential wise, Monahan has everything necessary to say that his ceiling is as a point-per-game, first line NHL centre.

From Ottawa play-by-play brodcaster AJ Jakubec:
"Final thought on Monahan. In 16 yrs covering JR, he and Logan Couture are the best pro prospects I've seen on a daily basis. Total package."

He's my pick and I'm hoping he's still on the board when we draft. I see Jones, MacKinnon, Drouin, and Barkov all going before him. Some team will draft a defenseman before us, and someone else will draft Lindholm/ Nichushkin, so he should be available.

I keep seeing Pulock fall in the rankings... he played on a terrible team this year.

If we could snag him with with the Blues pick, I think it'd be a huge steal. Best slap shot in the draft.

It's really important that the Flames lose these next two games if we have any hope of improving our draft ranking. Even one loser point will go a long way to ensuring we pick 7th overall.

I'd like to see CGY draft 3 Cs in the first round... One of them is bound to be a solid #1C

They can pick up D with their later round picks

Dubious? As I read the thread it seemed to be headed in the direct of a lot of threads. Spitballing seemed to be progressing to genuine "if" and on the way to "when". It was that was with the bulk of the trade speculation threads. I just think it's best to temper expectations otherwise we'll have a full scale grump-fest when we end up right about where we are now. I merely wanted to point out some teams below us are unlikely to win many of their remaining games. Tampa is the best bet to match our 42 points and I think they jump ahead due to more wins?

Plan for about 7th and then be happy if we end up lower and let the fapping go crazy if we end up lucking out.

Moving on, I'm with Azzarish, I'm jones ing for Monahan. I think he's that 70ish point captain material center we could really use. He won't challenge for the scoring title but I think he's in that Toews mold.

If we drafted Monahan, Mantha and Morin, it would go a long way to having some size and grit.

Monahan over Lindholm for me as well. Monahan's face-off ability is the cherry on top.

My only concern with Monahan, which I am not sure is a legitimate one is that he able to do so well because of his physical maturity. Although, having physical two way second line centre would be good as well.

He is who I want with the Blues pick as well. Not sure if he is available but I would love to get him if we can. RH shot to boot.

I find Curtis Lazar intriguing as a possible mid round pick. Has decent size, a great shot and scouts saying he is very coachable, willing to do the small things that make the big things work.

I'm skeptical about Lindhom being similar to Forsberg, as Lindholm looks small to me... not tiny, but he's not a big guy by any means.

Forsberg wasn't a big, physical player when he was a teenager either, Forsberg's also only 6 feet tall.
