Lol I was in Maui last year and unless the price of food has crashed food is not less expensive.
Or maybe it is if you're the CEO and buying super expensive food.

Food in Maui is very high. Dude is lying. I would expect gas there to be high too because it’s an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Gas buddy checks would sort that out.

Do some people find driving stressful? Absolutely, even if they may not admit to it. I can't count the number of times (it's easily in the hundreds) that I've had a coworker start their workday by either showing up late and complaining about being stuck in traffic or arriving all stressed and anxious and whining about how they were almost killed by some maniac cutting them off on the Deerfoot.

I don't even have to be in Maui to know he's full of crap about gas prices. Checking GasBuddy, the cheapest gas on Maui is $3.79/gal. at Costco and Safeway, with a lot of stations over $4/gal.
That price makes conversion easy since there are 3.785 litres in a US gallon, so it's basically $1.00 USD per L. At today's exchange rate, that's about $1.36 CAD per L.
GasBuddy is showing the Costcos in Calgary at $1.129 per L and pretty much every station in the city is under $1.30/L.

I was in Maui a few years back and it was very, very expensive. This guy is either lying or off his rocker or completely lost all perspective.

What I posted might just end up a random artifact of the internet. Various parts, like the FOIP request might be individually findable. I'll post back here if I can get back to the original.

I mean I was in Seattle / Tacoma and LA last year too and the food there was really expensive too. I remember travelling to the US many years ago and noticing how cheap food was in the grocery stores, and now it's expensive even before conversion.

It's not a terrible idea. It is the same approach as carbon sequestration where you just need to find a decent reservoir rock (far enough below the water table which isn't challenging) with an adequate cap and then you just inject away. It is likely even easier than CCS and less risky.

Well if any of those 3 things end up being true it’ll be the first documented case of a person posting something misleading like that on twitter.

Yeah, anywhere West Coast is expensive as hell and, as you said, even before conversion.
Theres a reason all those people are living in tents. Its not just the cost of housing, its the cost of everything.
You know what is cheap? Booze and drugs. I wonder why theres a problem there....

Your coworker probably merges doing 60 and thinks their signal light means, “I am turning now”.

Yeah, anyone who says Maui is less expensive than anywhere in Canada is completely disassociated with reality.
Hey America...keep him.

Looking at the volumes I think they are manageable, though I have no idea what the tailings contain and what challenges they may cause(excess pipeline corrosion?). But perhaps a bigger issue would be the removal of that water from the system, particularly if this is a way to abandon tailings completely and quickly divert it all to disposal wells.
That, and disposal wells are already in high demand and hard to find really good ones.

This was not a single individual but was many different coworkers across several different employers over many years. I realize this is purely anecdotal, but many people who commute via car seemed to start their workdays much more stressed than those who walked, cycled, or took public transit.
