I was considering this for an upcoming trip… sounds genius.

How do you arrange this with the hotel so that they don’t just refuse the delivery?
I was thinking of getting a few items that I can get here shipped to a hotel for an upcoming trip, so interested in how that goes.

Just call them and give them a heads up, they're always down with helping someone out.
I've never done it internationally but back in my oilfield days I'd have stuff shipped to me at a hotel quite often. Still have the package in your name, if you have the room # literally just have it sent there the same way you'd fill out the address for an apartment. The front desk will either keep it there for you to pickup, or even leave it in your room when they do housekeeping.

I have also done this many times. Never an issue.

Okay but doesn’t that tell people something? Like don’t get me wrong I love the ingenuity but when the solution to airlines crappiness about checked bags is “hey why don’t you, to get around that problem, contract out shipping your bags to overnight express delivery services” obviously it is a huge indictment on airline quality.
I think people / especially Canadians should demand better service from Canadian oligopoly airlines (and all the other oligopolies we like to enshrine).

I looked at this in the past and it was insanely expensive. Seems like a baller move and I definitely would like to do it, but it's the cost (depending on what you're sending though).

Yeah I could totally see it working for some destinations then being outrageous for others

It depends, and I'm not getting any younger, but I think it was ~$500 to send a carryon sized piece that had guaranteed delivery. That's pretty tough when the airline is charging ~$50, if that.
I just liked the idea. First guy I ever heard about doing that was Hulk Hogan, actually, and I just thought it was brilliant...until I saw the cost.

People are animals, we all know of the rush to get on the plane asap to get overhead luggage space. I hang back and sit down, keep an eye on the gate and walk up right with that last few people.
Then everyone crowds around the baggage carousel as close as they can so no one else can see anything, plus it can sometimes take well over 20 mins. Oversize bags sometimes longer. I'm already in a cab miles away.
To avoid all of that is awesome and worth bragging about.

Before Fairmont Hotels was bought by Accor many years ago they offered a program where guests could have their bags delivered. I don't recall all the details but I think it was free for the mid and top tier rewards members. They would arrange to have bags picked up and most of the time the bags would be waiting for you in the hotel room when you arrived.

Ahh, so that's why it costs $1k/night for a mediocre room for a non-tiered guest.

I don’t even understand what it is that you do. The first paragraph is outlining one of the main reasons why having carry on bags sucks.
So you don’t have a carry on? Or you’re just comfortable with it on your lap or taking up your foot space? Good for you I guess.

What I don’t get is, isn’t there enough overhead space for each person on the plane to put a single carry-on sized bag? And if you’re not sitting underneath said bin, why is the person putting it there? The people that put their bags in a different spot are evil and make departing the plane that much slower because they’re not ready.

No. And then there are “personal items” and suit bags.

Some aircraft are pretty good and essentially have bin space for every seat like the Boeing Max planes. This is because the overhead is designed so that carryon luggage is arranged on edge instead of laying flat.

Someone making a loose plan to swing by your office in "the morning" . So you spend all day stapled to your desk waiting for them to show up.

Carry on luggage should be designed as parallelograms that would fit better in the bins (which are parallelogram shaped).

Your overheard space should be assigned to you just as your seat is assigned to you.
